VG Part 3 - The Pact

Post by chrisn »

Last night for dinner, I had a fillet drowning in the Cruz Bay Grill Rub for dinner. Can I just say YUM! I totally did not get enough of that ambrosia! For those of you who have not yet tried it, do yourself a huge favor and take some home. Ruth, you know I'll be calling girl!

This morning even though I woke up at 7:00, I woke up thinking that I have never slept so damn good in all my live long life. This is despite the fact that I overcooked myself at the Baths yesterday. Those beds at Guavaberry have seriously got to be clouds from heaven I'm telling ya! After a long drawn out process of which bikini to sport, I throw the hair into another funky bun and go to see if the kids are still sleeping. Hell yes they're still sleeping, it's not 12:00 yet! I'll tell you though; Drama Girl's got the A/C hook up going on in that bedroom for sure! It must be 60 degrees F in there and they are both buried under mounds of covers on their beds. She is taking full advantage of the newly installed air at Guavaberry!

<a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1105.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1105.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Since I can't stand to have my peeps sleeping while I'm sitting there wasting precious beach time when I could be immersing myself in the waters of happy life at Spring Bay, I go ahead and decide to hurry the natural course of REM's along a little. I mean, you can sleep all you want at home right? I couldn't stand to wait any longer than was humanly possible, so we all decided (ok, I decided) that a cold cereal breakfast was just the thing to start our day a little bit quicker.

We head over to the office where we rented our fins for the week at $2 a day (what a deal!), then head straight down to Spring Bay Beach which in my opinion is the most OMG, beautiful, stunning, perfect eye candy of a beach on Virgin Gorda or anywhere for that matter. It's totally different from STJ's beaches, but I feel it really rivals any of the prettiest ones on STJ. Really. It just does it for me, what can I say? I am so happy that we chose Spring Bay as our first beach destination of the trip because it just set the tone you know? There were 3 people on the beach upon arrival and after getting over the WOW factor, we copped a spot for our chairs from Guavaberry's shed (have I told you I love this place?), then without any further delay, I'm in that water and it's freaking magnificent! So warm, so calm, so clear and well, the stuff of dreams! Drama Girl toted one of those spring netted floaties with her all the way from home warning anyone that would listen that if she had to tote it, she got to float it so before I could bat an eyelash, she's comatose in the water. I don't think the girl moved for like 2 hours. Well ok, she flipped once. Like magic and without any booze to help things along, she's automatically turned from the Wicked Queen into Snow White. OK, I think I need me some of that water hammock! To my surprise, she handed it over with a smile and headed up to the chairs to broil a while.

While I am busy getting my float on, the boys decide they're overdue for a snorkel and take off in the direction of The Crawl with Honey being too excited to even grab the underwater camera. They were gone for about an hour and a half and were just stoked to the max upon their return. We had a fish identification party on the deck later, but they identified many corals, and different species of Butterflies, Angels, Surgeons, Doctorfish, Tangs, Jacks, Needles, Barracuda, Mullet, Porgy, Margate, Porkfish, Snappers, Damsels, Blue Chromis, Grouper, Fairy Basslets, Parrot, Hogfish, Wrassle, Slippery Dick, Cardinal, Goby, Blenny, Trumpet, Goatfish, Porcupine, Baloon Fish, Trigger and a huge school of Durgon. Whew! Hope I got that right and spelled it right. I was seriously bummed that Honey did not have the camera because they both ended up relaying the fact that it was one of their very favorite snorkels. After I heard that, I wasn't bummed, I was downright pi$$ed! Not only did I miss the fish extravaganza of the year, but I didn't even have documentation! Oh well, guess it's a good thing we have almost two weeks of snorkeling ahead of us!

<a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1175.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1175.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

After I'd had my fill of the float of love, we all pretty much decided that those Corn Pops we had for breakfast weren't cutting the mayo anymore. We decided to head over to Mad Dogs and scarfed BLT's times 4. While us 3 boozers were slurping down some feel good and admiring the general splendor, Critter Boy decided to turn on some Rocky Balboa and do a little chicken chasing. He was betting me he could catch one and it was pretty comical watching him run around Mad Dog's, run around the yard, run down the street and not get a damn bit of nowhere for his efforts. Poor little fella. He did have fun trying though.

<a href="http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1003.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k138/ ... C_1003.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

After lunching we decided to head back to the cottage and chillax out on the deck before our planned snorkel trip this afternoon. We had fun with the fish identification process but Critter Boy soon got bored of it and went on the prowl for critters outside around the cottage. When he came racing up the stairs all keyed up that he had been fishing for Turanchulas and had pulled up the mother lode on a string from her lair, I told him to knock it off cause he was going to bring her wrath down on me. I could tell he was bent as he stalked away calling me a fun sucker.

So this afternoon we have a snorkel trip booked to go out with Dive BVI on Sea Monkey. We head out to the marina and found the store easy enough. After signing our livelihoods away, everyone is ready and we are off. We are the only 4 on the boat but we're on our way to pick up a group of 4 divers from Little Dix. Critter Boy who is a PADI Seal Diver won't shut up about diving. He is seriously bent that he can't go out with the other divers. Casey who is as cute as it gets is chatting it up with us. She asks if Drama Girl and I are sisters. I like Casey! I say no, she's my daughter, and she looked at me and says "wow, you're a hot mom!" I LOVE Casey! Next, we pick up our divers and head out to the Dog Islands. Great Dog to be exact, where we were told by the adorable Casey that she was going to snorkel us through the Chimney, the channels and through what she called the fish bowl. I was really happy that she was going with is cause well, in case I haven't told you, I love her! The snorkel lasted a little over an hour so I was able to get some serious leg toning in, woo-hoo! We saw all kinds of beautiful corals and amazing creatures. Nick stuck by her like a bee to the honey pot. She brought up a Sea Egg for him to examine, then carefully placed it back where she found it. Every time she free dove, he was right there with her. Side by side. Her yin to his yang. We found a HUGE Channel Clinging Crab and on the way back to the boat, we found a Hawksbill Turtle and decided to hang with him for a spell. He must not have minded, cause we all stayed together for about 10 minutes before finally heading in. Dive Boy watches every step the divers make and is bombarding Casey with questions about when can he dive and will she take him? Not anyone else. "Only you Casey!" Next thing I know, they are shaking hands and nose to nose making a sacred pact that when he returns a little older and wiser, Casey will take him and be his dive buddy. The kid is in L.O. I tell ya, BIG! I HIGHLY recommend Dive BVI! The trip was very inexpensive ($130), the boat is big and beautiful and Casey was the icing on the cake! I would have to say the best tour guide we have ever had on any excursion. What a doll! On the way to the car, Dive Boy is pounding into my head the fact that they "shook hands mom." And it's "a sacred pact mom." The kid's laying the groundwork for the next trip already. He knows how to play me.

Upon our arrival back at the marina, shop girl says "I want to have a look see at the bikinis inside." Oh sh*t! Neither one of us has ever met a bikini we didn't like so this is dangerous territory for Honey. In the dressing room I can hear "OMG! This is darling. I think I want this. I have to have this!" Shocker! I was a good girl and didn't try anything on. I figured since I had brought down 7 bikinis with me, I wasn't in dire need of a new one. She did end up with a cherry red bikini by Body Glove and it was adorable so Honey caved. Score one for the Drama Girl!

Before dinner I started to realize that the back side of me was completely crispy, but tonight was the Bath & Turtle for live music, the Caribbean Buffet and Pain Killers times 6 so I sucked it up and off we went! Dinner was good and by the time we polished off the last of our Pain Killers, I had serious case of too much sun, and alcohol dehydration. Since Honey and I were lit up like Christmas tree lights, Drama Girl got a crash course in island driving 101. Shh, don't tell; she did great from what I could gather through the haze of feel good.

We stopped at the commissary for some snacks and a board game (so convenient), then back at the cottage, Honey and I watched Dan in Real Life while the kids tried cheating each other in Clue. What a fabulous day!

Thank you so much for your reports. They are wonderful and so are the pictures.

I totally agree about Dive BVI. Casey is a sweethart. I have dived the Chimney two times and it's a perfect site for both snorkeling and diving.

We have stayed in the Alamander house and it's lovely. Guavaberry and Spring bay is a peace of heaven.

Looking forward to the rest. Looks like you were having a wonderful trip.

You are getting me so stoked for our Feb 2009 trip to VG!!!!!

Questions -

Did you buy beef on island? We are going to 10 days and will likely want to cook in some of the time but don't know what to expect in terms of availability.

Is the Bath & Turtle a bar/restaurant?

Re-living my trip thru you. Maybe I dont need to do a trip report. We ate at the Bath & Turtle, went out with diveBVI, and daughter bought a bikini in the shop too.
