the sailing trip that we booked asked me to e-mail passport numbers, names, birthdates- not sure if I feel comfortable about doing so - would you? Thanks,

It has nothing to do with fraud. If you booked a trip with a licensed captain they have to clear you out of the us 48 hours to departure. They can do it online but they need the info you mentioned.

Capt. Phil asked us for similar information, but it didn't worry me. I know they have to do customs stuff on our behalf when we sail with the various charters. :D

If you worry about e-mailing that info offer to fax it to them. No worries!

Capt. Phil with the Wayward Sailor asked for all of that for our upcoming 7/23 day sail to Jost. After talking to him over the phone, I felt completely comfortable.

They have to file your information with Homeland Security before hand. I have done it twice, no issues.
