Who reads the old trip reports?

Post by linne »

Some months ago there was something, I wanted to see in one of my old TR from July 07. I did a search in the forum to find it and was a little surprised, because it seemed, as if the number of people, who has opened the TR, has increased. I got curious and made a note with the number at that time. And today, about four month later, the number, who has opened/read? the report has increased with about five hundred?

I cannot really believe that so many people are reading the old reports. Can someone give me an explanation?

I think people DO go back and read the old reports, Linne. I know I have read yours more than once. It was well written and also different because you spent time on St. Croix, and there's not much STX info on this board.

I wish more people would post Villa reviews after their trips...in the Villa review section...

http://www.virgin-islands-on-line.com/s ... ndex.shtml

These are really valuable when planning a trip and choosing a villa....much easier to find villa info here than buried in a trip report.

I look at old reports too, mostly when I know there is specific info in the report on a villa or snorkel spot, or something...

TRs aren't organized very well on this Forum, being mixed in with hundreds of other threads sometimes they are hard to find. Regardless of the organization strategy (or lack of) I really appreciate all the great info I have gotten here!

Is there any way to access the "OLD" forum's posts?? Every now and then I want to see some of the old trip reports from before this NEW forum was set up. I know that I was able to a year or so, ago.

Someone asked the same thing earlier this month and here's Anthony's answer.

I don't so much search for specific trip reports, but any report that contains the info I'm looking for. For instance, I might search for "Pine Peace" to get several responses that all deal with what Pine Peace Market sells, etc. Then I scan all the TRs that have that info.

I always search for stuff looking for info on our upcoming trip. I've looked up snorkeling, bottled water, how to take underwater pictures, food, dining, and all sorts of other stuff.

If a trip report pops up on my search I usually read to get any ideas.

Sometimes I go back and read old trip reports. But they are not always that easy to find.

I wish there was a kind of "Trip report archive", where all the reports were stored. Maybe it could be an own sub forum, like the OT-forum.

Search engines might get counted as reads as they index.

I do like the old TRs!

I was pretty bummed when the old forum disappeared. I miss posts from Howie, way2old, bandit, grinder and a few others. Sometimes it was fun/informational to archive those old posts. I hope Anthony can put them back up someday.
