New Orleans/Jazz Fest Trip Report (my version)
All of you know Nothintolose and her love of New Orleans and Jazz Fest. A group of us decided to descend upon her and the fest and she managed to coordinate this group so that we all had a good time. Here's a bit of a recap from the weekend, but it's mainly pics and ramblings. I know the other Jazz Festers will have their 2 cents to add, but in the end we will all agree that we had a blast. Most of us had never met, but you wouldn't have known it. Within a few minutes of hanging out together we realized that it was like being with old friends!
Jazz Fest was Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and most folks arrived Thursday.

Here are the players:
Jan & Mike arrive first, on Wednesday night. We'd never been to NO so we wanted a day to check out the city and spend a little time in the French Quarter.
<a href="http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p267 ... MG0310.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p267 ... MG0310.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Elizabeth picks us up at the airport, hugs all around (she left Rudy @ home)
<a href="http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p267 ... 6541-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p267 ... 6541-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
She gets us to the hotel in the French Quarter, The Dauphine Orleans. The hotel was a typical French Quarter boutique kind of place with courtyards and fountains, etc. etc. VERY CHARMING. But I wouldn't recommend the hotel; service was terrible. When you have to go to the front desk to ask for toilet paper and then again for clean towels, among OTHER things. Loved the room, great location, but very expensive. I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express a week prior and had nicer sheets on the bed there!
Mike & I slipped over to "May Baileys" for a quick drink before hitting the sack.
Next day Elizabeth picked us up late morning and took us on a tour of the city. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Elizabeth is one of the nicest, most generous people I've met. She loves her city and is very proud of all the work since Katrina. We saw a lot of damage from Katrina and the levee that broke. But we saw much more; lots of beautiful homes and neighborhoods and of course the river, lake and above ground cemeteries. Dropped us off late afternoon and we napped and read, and just in general relaxed.
Had a great dinner on a second floor balcony somewhere on Bourbon Street. What fun to watch all the passers by. They also know how to mix a STRONG drink down there! WHOO.................my first of too many Hurricanes that night.
<a href="http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p267 ... MG0248.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p267 ... MG0248.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Next thing we know Cat & hubby Kenneth are on the way to our hotel with Rick & Christine (whom they had just picked up at the airport). This would be the first of many, many trips to our hotel for Cat & Kenneth. We meet the four of them and hugs all around. Now the six of us hit Bourbon Street!!

At some point, and a few drinks later we end up at the other end of the Quarter and see Elizabeth, Margo & Kellee walking our way!
Margo (our California Girl)
<a href="http://s130.photobucket.com/albums/p267 ... HFOita.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p267 ... HFOita.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

WHOO...............more hugs, hugs, hellos, hugs, beads, pictures. Now off to the Absinthe House for some of the crazy green drink that they set on fire. We all kept waiting for Kellee to see green fairies, but none appeared. There was a guy dressed in a kilt walking around, but I don't think it was the drink.
The girls are ready to party!
Front row Margo & Christine
Back Row Kellee, Cat, Jan, Elizabeth

We end back up at our end of the Quarter for breakfast as 2am. Say goodnight to all at 3am and crash (or maybe passed out). Okay, I'll tell on myself now. TOO MANY HURRIPAINS (as Rick now calls them) for me. Ya'll have all been there before. All that FRUIT and alcohol..........................no one will see me on Friday (HOW EMBARASSING).
Friday the festival starts (minus two of the culprits). More later........

Jazz Fest was Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and most folks arrived Thursday.

It was so much fun actually meeting everyone in person! That first night was really a late one!
When we got home at around 3:30 I crashed hard!!!!!! But I did it on a full belly! Chili cheese fries, and I'm not sure what else I had but it was a full meal I do know that. Maybe eggs, sausage and hash browns?
Do any of you remember? All I know is it was good! Or maybe it was the drinks that made it so good! LOL!

The place where they drank the absinthe was Pirate's Alley something or other. Kellee said that absinthe was much smoother than the one she had at The Old Absinthe House in November when she was here last. In case any of you come down here looking for absinthe
That was a LONG night alright but fun! I felt right at home with this whole crowd. Everyone was so easy going about everything. So nice and laid back and everyone got along from the minute we all got together!
I miss them!!!
