Bringing kids friends along to St John

Post by tarheelgirl »

Hello and Happy New Year!
Hubby and I are going to make the trek again to STJ and this time with teen daughter in tow. In order to make the trip bearable for us, we were going to bring one of her friends with us. Since the friend is under 18, isn't there some kind of Power of Attorney thing or something that shows we have permission to take her?
Appreciate the help...my daughter will do so much better with "her own kind" around!

You should bring a letter, signed by both her parents, stating that they give their permission for you to take their daughter to (fill in the blank, i.e., USVI and BVI if a day trip is planned). The letter needs to be notarized. You most likely will not need this letter, but better to have it in hand.

You should also have the girl's mom type up some medical history information (allergies, medications, previous concerns, stuff like that.) And make sure you get a copy of her medical card. You never know if she'll step on some sharp coral and need stiches or get bit by a spider and break out in hives or something like that.

I bring these kinds of documents whenever I travel with my kids (divorced). I have never needed them. But, it pays to be safe!!

You may also want to include permission to change flights in the letter. When we sent my daughter home from St John with Grandpap, I inlcuded this so that in case they wanted to take a bump or change flight plans, they could do so with her ticket as well.

Thanks everyone! Lots of things I didn't think of.
Now, time to sit back and read the Jorge trip reports!
