Charlotte to STT...$770 over Thanksgiving?

Post by Donk2001 »

We have 4 going this Thanksgiving. We went last year and the price dropped to $350 around September, but the increase in gas has me worried that the fares may even rise more than the current $750. The fares were around $600 until a few weeks ago.

Do any of you airline watchers think we can hold out again?

We have 3 going down on 11/22 from Newark. We were holding out until we realized that the fares just kept increasing. The flights were over 3/4 full, so I didn't think that there would be much of a chance that they'd come down, especially with the rising cost of fuel. So, we bit the bullet and got a rate of 665 for 2 and just over 700 for the 3rd. There were only 2 left at the lower price! It's a bummer, because when I first started looking - only about a month ago- the fares were in the 400's.

I would hold out. My wife and I went last thanksgiving as well and ended up paying 600 for 2 out of FT Luaderdale. Right about Sept, like you said, it dropped to 150 per person, so 300 per couple. We were kind of ticked, but thats the risk you take. I would think it would drop sometime like Sept again.

That being said, we have already bought our tickets for this thanksgiving. Bought them in Jan actually. They were 330/person from Orlando, so being it was only 30 bucks more than last year and an additional stop we thought it was a good deal. Only time will tell if we could have saved money by waiting until Sept or so. Right now we made a good choice since rates are pretty high, but its still 6 months away.

Good Luck!

I hear you. My flight down is about 40% full, so I may wait a bit.

last year when jay and I came down with a group of 10, we booked early and paid a pretty high rate. Then a couple months before the trip fares dropped and we got vouchers for the difference to use on the next trip. So I would book, rather than taking a chance of the flight filling up.

We are waiting too. Last year it was mid summer when we got our tickets for Thanksgiving and paid $350 each from Syracuse. I'm getting anxious this year. On the news this morning they were talking about all the airlines are going to start charging extra for a 2nd bag - $25 to $100 per bag. WOW $100 !!!

I've been trying to work out using my frequent flyer miles ... but the dates don't work. So we wait and wait and wait

We just paid $791 for two people from Dulles in mid November. Based on what I was seing in terms of air fare, I was happy to get it.

I would try to sign up at Yapta.com. Their service tracks changes in price and shows you how to get a refund if the price drops after you buy.

Here's a forum thread about it too.

The airline prices are getting crazy!
