Yet another one bites the dust

Post by Lex »

Another restaurant looks like it's going under:

We never ate there (never crossed my mind to go to the Caribbean and eat Chinese food), but it is concerning that so many places aren't able to make it anymore. There's been a whole cluster of them. It seems across the board, too. From Sosa's to Stone Terrace. The changing face of STJ continues to change.

It is reassuring that Natures Nook looks like it'll reopen.

With the availability of well stocked grocery stores and villas with gourmet kitchens, more people seem to be cooking in now - I know we do a lot more than we used to.

My friend Megan owns the China Shack.

I remember wanting Chinese food and having to get on the boat, walk acrosss the street, place my order, grab it and get back on the boat.
It was a nice addition for island residents (not just tourits) but food cost and the high cost of good reliable help, plus rent, insurance, etc. are all hard to keep up with when you have such a niche market.

I wish Miss Megan the best, she is a wonderful woman.

I think what you wrote is very much the case. Starfish is well stocked. Starfish opens gourmet shop. Great kitchens in great villas, where folks want to enjoy what they pay for. I think that all contributes to the situation.

Then you have all of the other economic "stuff" that is going on right now. People may just by nature decide they still want to travel to STJ but will look for many ways to cut costs.

Usually, one of the first businesses to suffer during a bit of a downturn are restaurants. Here, there and everywhere.

And just after I wrote this up, I read on Barnako's site the article about air fares. Lots of changes to impact an area of the world that depends almost entirely on tourism. Not good at all

And over on Tradewinds I'm reading that Mixology is rumored to become a strip club with private booths according to an island source.

You have got to be kidding me. If the investors are reading my message and if they have some additional money to throw down the toilet, would you be kind enough to PM me and I will give you my address. At least my toilet can use a bit of investor capital.

I'm stunned.
