Equator Queary

Post by CariBert »

I noticed on the Cruz Bay web cam that around noon, people's shadows are almost directly beneath them. Not like here in Dallas, any time of the year. We always "cast" a shadow. Is St. John about 20 degrees north of the Equator, or less?

Just an observation...a curiosity really......

or I'm just bored

I have not checked, but I was thinking 18-19 degrees North.

EDIT: San Juan, PR is 18 29N so St. Thomas and St. John are going to be close to that.

18.3311 to be exact.... for folks standing on the dock, next to the beach, in front of the webcam.

Whoa! That's pretty exact Steve...how'd you get that?

Say, this isn't an off topic subject is it?

I use google Earth and you can read the pointer location in decimal lat and long to 6 decimal places... pretty cool for a geography nerd like myself.

When I opened up this thread, I expected you to be talking about the Equator restaurant at Caneel! Laughing at myself now.
