Evening or morning walks

Post by gavinman »

My wife and I usually like to take an evening or morning stroll. Will an evening walk be too buggy? Where is a good trail just to walk a mile or two?

We will be staying in the Coral Bay area. When we visit Florida we usually walk the beach at night. Would it be possible to walk Cinnamon or Trunk in the evening? I know the roads will be too dangerous to walk on especially during the evening hours.

The no-seeums can get nasty at dusk and dawn on the beach. And they love me! I'd stay away from the sand at those times. Unless you wear appropriate clothing - which may be too warm. Just a thought.

Since you are staying in Coral Bay, you could drive down from your villa and walk the flat stretchs of road around the busstop area (what is that- Rt 10?).

Maybe park at Skinny's, grab beer, walk to Island Blues, grab beer, walk to Aqua Bistro, grab food, walk back to car at Skinny's?

Sounds nice but my memory is fuzzy. Do others agree that this is doable?

My favorite walk is to park at Maho [opposite of the pavilion] and walk to the Annaberg parking lot... then up the hill and down the hill back to Maho. It's a nice loop... about 1 mile? Flat and then a challenging hill... but nice and shady the whole way. You can walk it mid-day and it's still nice and cool.

I agree with villafish and if you are a jogger that is the best route as well, fairly flat. It's shaded most of the way. You can park at Maho and drop off your peeps on the beach then run to Annaberg, to Francis etc. then back to Maho to jump in the water, then hit the cooler! Other than the trails it's the safest route.

Morning over evening

The morning hours are perfect, with lower temps than you'll get in the evening. Plus it's quieter. We've walked Cinnamon and Hawksnest between 8-10 a.m. in April and November and had the beach all to ourselves.

The Skinny's to Aqua Bistro, via island Blues is a nice evening walk. For the more adventurous, take a flashlight and do the Ram Head walk on a full moon. It's spectacular. Also, an easier night walk is the Yawzi Point trail.A little spooky, but pretty nice! I do it in Tevas, but most would want sneakers. Bugs? Hey, it is Saint John.

i have done the fuzzy walk of coral, but ate at sweet plaintains...a little farther than aqua bistro, but worth the walk. it was yummy! we had a couple cars stop and ask if we wanted a ride, so if youre to full u can probably hitch back to skinnys!
