Rick is the road now closed to Dittlef point? I saw your post on the other forum.

I went on a weekend (a week ago Sunday) and the gate was capable of being opened manually, which we did. We closed it when we left. Don't know the situation during the week. It was a very short stroll to the beach from the road.

Sorry to sound totally clueless, but do you drive all the way out to the end of the road after going through the gate? Or do you go on foot? I'm really interested in snorkeling Ditleff while it's still undeveloped (i.e. ASAP!)

You need to park outside the gate in an area that is NOT posted No Parking/Tow Area. The area in front of the gate is liberaly posted. You cannot drive through the gate as of last week.

The develpers are rather making a point that they don't want visitors.

We just returned from staying near Ditleff. The "gates" are two sections of scaffolding securely connected with a looped piece of rope. They can be easily moved and returned into place. We chose to be good neighbors, returned our car to the villa and walked in. It's a nice quiet beach if you're up for the walk back. That hill just west of their entry is a killer.

Anyone who is interested in the development plans can go to www.ditleffpoint.com - of course it is clearly stated there that this will be "St John for the Select Few"

Just to defend my stature as a law abiding visitor, I didn't untie any ropes to get in. The "gates" were half open when I entered. I talked to the construction manager on the beach who was walking his dogs. He told me to close the gates when I left. Sounds like I just got lucky and they really don't want you in there. I wouldn't stress too much about it though----snorkeling was good, but not great---although I might not have known where to look:). You can always go to nearby Klein Bay Beach.
