Fingernails grow faster in the islands?
Fingernails grow faster in the islands?
Everyone's fingernails in my group grew more quickly than usual. Sweet Christine thought it was because she was not biting them? Not me, the only thing I bite is Sweet Christine.

What a weird question. I'm not sure if they actually grow faster in warmer, more moist conditions, but I think nails break less when it's warm. During "winter" here in GA, my nails get brittle and break easily, thus I always have short nails. In the warmer months, my nails aren't nearly as brittle so they are always longer.
Interesting. I should get a grant to study this phenomenon on St. John.

Ok - diva-girlie topic response here, sorry guys. I have acrylics and notice that if I am in the islands for ten days I always need a fill immediately when I get back - I can usually go 14-16 days here at home, even in the summer. So, I agree that nails do grow faster. I always wear gloves for dishes and housework (although no one could accuse me of doing too much of that -
One other thing - if I have on a clear or frosted nail polish then the chlorine in the pool or the salt water (can't say which, but one of them) will turn the light polish an icky brown color, really disgusting. Have learned to go with darker polish or with new fresh white tips just buffed. Oh, the trevails of travel, life's hard out there for a diva...

Well Rick,
Before you left for your trip you had such a detailed analysis of tech-ice I would have thought you were Einstein. I think this could be a project at some point, but I don't know if your subjects would all go willing. One woman in the 90 degree room, one in the 87 degree...I mean the way you did tech ice you would probably be arrested for this project...Hope you enjoyed your time in St. John. Even though we haven't met, I know you take things in jest...

Apparently I take your random musings pretty seriously. I typed "fingernail growth rate hot weather" into "Yahoo' and found several scholarly articles indicating that fingernail growth increases somewhat in hot weather. Its also affected by diet (did not say specifically whether high beer consumption increased growth rate).

You all are quite missing the mark when it comes to the rapid growth od fingernails and hair. It is a medically proven fact that the increased growth of hair and nails is proportionate to the amount of sex you are having. Why, when I'm on Island, I have to shave three, sometimes four times a day.........
No wonder we all like to go there for our vacation!!
