Any info on Oceanport Villa

Post by laurie »

Looking for a 2-bedroom villa in low season for 2 couples, trying to keep it under $3000. Stayed above coral bay harbor last yr, would like another locale for this trip, early Dec 08. No reviews on Oceanport(offered by Dest.STJ),,anyone familiar with this reasonably priced villa. Any thoughts or villa suggestions appreciated. Thanks Laurie

Splendore on Maria Bluff would be good for two couples. Good location near Cruz Bay, all paved roads, and great water views. I think it is rented through Vacation Vistas.

We just stayed at Oceanport over the President's Week Holiday. We had a group of ten, so we utilized the downstairs suite and an air mattress. For the money, it is a great house. Very nice common area and all the bedrooms have wonderful balconies. Bedrooms are also large. Location is great, less than 10 minutes into town. The house is really perched on the face of that hill. The views are awesome, no sunsets though. On the first day we saw a ray swimming along the shoreline! I forget how many steps we counted down to the beach, but it is not bad. It is nice having the beach for early morning strolls. If I had to point out any pitfalls of the house I would say that the kitchen and bathrooms could use some updating, but they were fine. We had some water issues during our stay where the pump was turning off on its own. They sent help out right away and fixed it for us. There is no pool, but in the past when we stay at houses with a pool we rarely use it anyway. Hope this helps...let me know if you have other specific ?s

Destination St. John is great, so they will help with any issues you might have. We looked at Oceanport, but ended up going with Hale Lani instead (might fit into your budget for two couples and is an amazing house!) The location is good, and the views are great, but I was told that some rooms "look dated," and the walk to the beach can be a bit of a pain. Generally I head up to the North Shore beaches anyhow, so I probably would've just gone down there to poke around.

My best suggestion when working with DSJ is to give them a call and tell them what you are looking for and what your budget is, and they will find you a villa that works. That is what we did, and we were happy with our choice.

I stayed at Oceanport last May with another couple and we really liked the house and felt it was a good value and in a good location. My husband and the other couple seemed to think it could use a fresh coat of paint and some attention but we all agreed that we ultimately loved the house and the layout and the great deck area. The view is of endless ocean and the house is cool and breezy and the 2 main bedrooms are great and (nearly) equal. As I recall, there was also a 3rd bedroom that had 2 twin beds and then a lower apartment area. IMO, I think there's plenty of bedroom privacy the way it's laid out. We saw the rays from the deck as well and I did make the trek down the stairs to the ocean. Okay, only once, so I guess I'm a little lazier than GQH. It's also in a good location (neighborhood) if you like to do morning walks. There's this cute little bar on the backside of the house and there's a hottub in the backyard. When I was there it wasn't working but hopefully it's been fixed since then. Unfortunately, I do know that the folks that stayed in the villa the week before us ended up getting flooded out. While we were there, we did notice some pools of water on the floor on one day, but not knowing about the previous flooding situation, I just dismissed it as a fluke or that maybe I left the screen door open and it rained in or something. Whatever it was, I'm sure that too must have been corrected by now too. As mentioned, there is no pool. That was okay by us, since we spend most of the day at the beach. Anyway, I would definitely stay there again. Hope this helps. Ali~

look at Miles Away with DSJ. I think that house is a great price off season.
