Jeep Wrangler
Jeep Wrangler
I was reading on St John Jeeps web site that they do not recommend a Jeep Wrangler for 4 adults. Does anybody know why, is it a danger issue or a fit issue?
Thanks
Thanks
My guess is it's more an issue of comfort. Whomever ends up getting into and out of the back seat gets pretty tired of it after a few days (this usually ends up being the ladies, don't you know). That said we always get a Wrangler. There just isn't another car that says 'island car' like a Wrangler so we ladies climb in and climb out. It's part of the island experience for us.
The other inconvient thing is you really can't get 4 adults plus luggage into a Wrangler which means you have to take two trips when you bring your luggage to the ferry dock. We don't think that's a big deal either.
I guess the rental agencies are going more and more to the Jeep Liberty. Maybe that's another reason they recommend something other than a Wrangler. But that just doesn't cut it for my DH. He's got to have a Wrangler.

I definitely think it is not practical for 4 people. We ended up keeping ours (which we rented at the airport) and getting a bigger (Liberty) on STJ because we could not fit 4 people and our beach cooler and chairs in the Wrangler.
I think for 2 people it would be fine because you coudl stow your gear in the back seat, but the "trunk" area behind the backseat is practically non-existent.

Tell your DH that you couldn't have bombed around with the top down anyway with the Wrangler (they don't allow the tops down or off). For 4 people you're better off with the Liberty. We've done it with 4 but it's really not the greatest. It's workable with 2 or 3 people but for 4 adults you really need more space than you will get in the Wrangler. Another good thing about the Liberty is you can close up the car and your seats won't get wet when it rains.

Hey Girl!
Our first trip down we had a Vitara & we really liked it! It was a 4 door & I think it's as big as the Liberty. Even though there were 2 of us, we picked up some riders a couple of times and it was fine, nice enough back seat. Mike was pleasantly surprised with it's handling & 4 wheel drive traction stuff
I'm so excited for you to have your friend coming along. Do you need another friend??
Oh, wait.... I'll be jazzing in New Orleans w/Nothintolose!

We didn't get the vehicle we reserved the last time. We tried St. John Car rental this time and reserved a Montero. I hope we get it because we have 4 people.
I had a dream about my daughter driving on STJ last night and it was frightening. She will get her license in April, but I think I will let my husband do all of the driving!

CaliforniaGirl - I have ridden in the back of the little Vitara and it was fine - not as comforatable as being in the back of a Grand Vitara or a Jeep Liberty. I was in the back long enough to ride from Hakuna Matata above Cinnamon Bay to Gifft Hill. I know the couple that rented the car loved it and thought it handled well. I don't know that I would want to spend all of my drives riding in that back seat though. It could get old fast.
You are renting from Courtesy if I remember correctly, ask them what they suggest, and if it's possible to get a larger car at this point in time.
On another note, had it not been for Jazz Fest, I would have probalby been on island at the same time you guys were there, but you KNOW how much I love Jazz Fest
Not even St. John is gonna make me miss a single day of the fest. Can't wait for Jan and Mike to experience it!
