Restaurants in San Juan
Hi Guys 
Hubby and I are going to San Juan for the Home Show in April and are therefore spending 2 nights there. I remember reading about a restaurant somewhere (I believe) in Old San Juan where the chef makes the selections for you but can't remember the name - anyone know of it or have any suggestions for a few great meals - expensive, local or anything in between

10 years ago, when I worked for GE and frequently visited the island, our favorites were:

Ajili Mojili on Ashford in the Condado area of San Juan specialize in very good local cuisine.

106 Calle San Sebastian Is in Old San Juan with narrow cobblestone streets, really cool.

No, I worked for Capacitor and Power Protection from 88 to 97. Back then we were part of ED&C. Our Surge Arrester manufacturing plant got moved from Pittsfield, MA to Bayamon, PR in the early 90's. You'll appreciate that the exact location was .18.384, -66.1418. GE sold the business to a competitor, Ohio Brass in 97. The gig was good for 3 or 4 trips a year. A couple years ago we were there for a few days before a St John trip. I also recommend Amadeus as well as Dragonfly. Dragonfly is at 364 Calle Fortaleza.As long as I am not mixing up the 2 I remember Dragonfly as serving tapas style, and we ate to our hearts content, enjoying it enormously!
Another cool, Old local place is La Bombonera (259 Calle San Francisco) We had breakfast there a couple times. They have this great old monstrosity of a coffee machine, fresh squeezed OJ and great Puerto Rican food.
How fun ! A couple days in Old San Juan is perfect! ENJOY!

A couple years ago we were there for a few days before a St John trip. I also recommend Amadeus as well as Dragonfly. Dragonfly is at 364 Calle Fortaleza.As long as I am not mixing up the 2 I remember Dragonfly as serving tapas style, and we ate to our hearts content, enjoying it enormously!

Pia - last June, we went to one in our hotel that I can find the name of where we ate authentic Puerto Rican food and we also went to The Parrot Club under the recommendation of someone on the forum. Both were good.
One of my soccer teammates is from Puerto Rico and recently moved here, if you want, I can ask her as well.

The Hotel El San Juan in the Isla Verde area also has a Palm Steak House.
For something fun, but less upscale there is also a rooftop Mexican restaurant called Tequila's. They make fresh, to order guacamole tableside - enjoy that with a grande margarita while you look out at the Caribbean!
