Catch Phrase Game
Catch Phrase Game
Son & family visited from D.C. this weekend and introduced us to this new game.(new to me anyway)
We had a blast & plan on taking it with us when we visit St. John. Just wanted to share my "new find" with y'all.

It takes both the sun and the rain to make a beautiful rainbow. --Unknown
Ok I found this description on Amazon:
"Ever play "Hot Potato" with a spud that ticks and talks? Welcome to Electronic Catch Phrase, the battery-powered blend of clue deduction and race against the clock. Two teams of two or more players each alternate turns, guessing the answers to clues in 11 categories, from Food & Drink to Tech & Inventions. Set the timer on the discus-like game unit, and the clue-giving countdown begins; if a team's guess matches the response on the game's readout, pass the unit to the opponents. Just don't get caught holding this potato when the buzzer sounds (after about a minute of increasingly insistent beating), as the other team will score a point, possession being nine- tenths of the "Awww!" With its infectious mix of fast, nerve-wracking, high- pressure passing the buck, Electronic Catch Phrase spreads a serious case of fun."
Sounds like a blast!

Hi liamsaunt,
I'm terrible at trying to explain things. I did find a link which I believe might give you a fairly good idea as to how to play this game. We had the "Electronic" version. As it ticks faster...it's like Hot Potato....you don't want to be the one left holding it! I noticed on this new site that they also have an Electronic Junior Catch Phrase which made me think of your niece(s) & nephew(s). Hope this link helps...
It really is fun.

We've brought Catch Phrase on our last few trips (including STJ) and will bring it tomorrow when we go on a little ski trip. It's great! It works for kids and adults, and on Thanksgiving we played with a group that ranged from my 8 y.o. nephew to my 80 y.o. aunt. Laughed our heads off!
Those who have played the electronic version of Catch Phrase might appreciate this: you know how the beeper starts going faster (kinda raises the intensity)? Well the game was in my daughter's backpack on the flight to STT, and it must have gotten pressed when she stretched her legs under the seat. It started beeping... faster and faster... and it was loud enough to be heard a few rows away. People started turning around like "what IS that?!?" Had to reassure some folks that it was just a game.
Other games we've enjoyed on vacation: Apples to Apples, Sequence, Cranium, Hoopla. But nothing beats Catch Phrase for laughs in a small package (good for travel.) We taught our kids to play Euchre, and that helped pass the time during a layover coming home from Maui.
