The Balcony restaurant - any thougths? experiences?
The Balcony restaurant - any thougths? experiences?
We are trying to break out of our dining rut and try new places on this trip.
I was considering the Balcony for one evening.
I don't hear much about it. Anyone eaten there recently?

Robin in NC has done a good job collecting recent comments I and others have made about The Balcony and other STJ restaurants here:

For some reason, we like it as a first night place - helps us get back into the vibe. Great view, good food, good desserts, good service. Some like it as an upscale lunch choice too.

When we come to place where the sea and the sky collide
Throw me over the edge and let my spirit glide

I'm embarrased that I haven't posted my reviews from our December trip. Here's our thoughts.
We ate there as a last minute thing and it was the nicest meal and evening we had that trip. It wasn't crowded so we lucked out with a rail table, and the service was over the top wonderful. Before we got our first drink we seemed to know everyone. We opted not to get an apetizer, but our waiter brought one for us anyway (no charge of course). It was a couple of seared scallops on a bed of Josephine's greens with a wonderful vinegar sauce...............YUMMY! Both our meals were fabulous. Mike had the Ahi Tuna, seared just a bit with a selection of hot sauces. He is still talking about it!! Said it could not have been any more perfect. I had the Mango Glazed Ribs and they were all but perfect. They do a good job plating the food, and of course it was the one night I didn't take my camera.
I highly recommend the place, consider reservations though.............and ask for a table by the rail. ENJOY!

Go for it!
Although this post appears unnecessary, since so many others have written in to say good things, I just thought that I'd respond as well. We love the many restaurants on St John and The Balcony is definitely a favorite of ours. We have always loved the location and have visited it, as it existed under different names (Cafe Wahoo, to name one). But the food at The Balcony is quite delicious and beautifully presented. Its a relaxing evening - great atmosphere, perfect location and delicious food! Enjoy!

As far as I know Michael is still the owner at The Balcony.......he has been in the restaurant business for 20 yrs or more. He was in Atlanta for a while before he decided to take a chance and start something in St. John.
He is focused and really wants the business to be good and the food to be delicious and the service to be superb.
