St.John shrine....

Post by parafins »

How many of you have a shrine to S.T.J. in your own home? I for one do.It's our basement bathroom which has no window in it.So when I built the bathroom I thought I should use some cheery looking paint.Well it turned out to be this bright sunshine yellow! Now what do I do? Then it hit me...A shrine to my favorite place! :D My mother hand painted the door in such detail that it amazed me! I told her that she should live on S.T.J. and paint for a living. 8) Sorry that the pic turned out so dark.Have a good weekend...ParafinsImage

My upstairs bathroom has become my "shrine". I haven't quit finished all the details yet, so I don't have pictures to show, but I can tell you one wall is the color of Trunk Bay. Your mom is a fantastic artist! Before you said she painted the door, I thought it was one of those photo murals. Awesome!

I'm with CG: I thought that was a photo! Your mom is a wonderful artist.

I don't really have a shrine, but I'm getting started on a tribute of sorts to STJ. I just found out Wed. that DH volunteered us to be a host house for a progressive dinner tonight! We'll have 12 for dinner and I wanted to get something new (you know how that goes), so I bought about a dozen frames yesterday and had prints made of my favorite shots from STJ (and Maui), and will hang them today. (Good thing I work from a home office.) Now I just need more wall space!

My bedroom has a tropical, island-y bedspread, but I haven't done much else with it. The plan was to put some of our best STJ photos in frames, but it hasn't quite happened yet.

Our son's room is the St. John shrine.

The fabrics are in beachy colors with sea creatures.

The wall art is framed momentos and pictures from St. John like our honeymoom pictures and the card from Caneel, that read "Mr. and Mrs. X, Room X.

I have several of the painted metal lizards and such from the smoothie stand and a few shadow boxes with sea shells.

Beachy, yet boy-ish.

Our bedroom hasn't quite crossed the line to shrine but it has a very islandy feel- a barely blue paint against really warm wood framing/closets/panelled wall.

I also have three sheet sets in fun patterns- stripes, leaves, wide bands of color- all blues/greens, that I mix and match for fun.

The kicker is a lamp that has three small dark wood shelves as a base- I have my Barr Lewis prints I got a Syzygy sitting on these shelves. Two of the best purchases I ever made.

When I made a new bathroom in our house 2 years ago I did very much an island theme. BT painted the walls a sponge on /rag off of blue and white that makes all of the walls look like island sky. There are favorite pics framed and also small pieces of coral and shells on a silver platter on the back top of the commode. I want a friend of mine to paint the back of a Suzuki Sidekick, complete with a VI license plate we brought back, on the wall you would see when sitting on the john. We call the room St. John. We're all deranged, you know!
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER !!!!!!!!!!

This is how it all starts. A little picture here a trinket there, then its a full blown tiki bar on the river bank behind your house.

Next thing you know your forty something, unemployed, don't own a car or a boat but you have this for a view off the deck of your temporary apartment.

I like it Jay, and I am jealous!

Let's see, my entire basement, which is pretty big, is the ocean, island theme with some STJ pictures. Our bedroom is the island/ocean theme with a STJ calendar and some STJ pictures, other island/ocean pictures, a tropical reef/fish bedspread. Our bathroom is the same theme with some STJ pictures in it. 8)
I decorated the kids bathroom the same way when they were too little to care about it. Now it's just the slob theme with sutff everywhere and you can't open the door! :?

I let my husband decorate the garage and the office with the car/race theme. :D
