terrahawk, aria, orions' hill week of 2/18/08

Post by papabou »

anybody know who's at any of above villas 2/18 to 23? bride's agreed to go back to cloud 9 on gifft hill again for a quickie during that time period on a promise i would show her some other villas in our price range that gives her some relief on long ride's to north shore beaches. would like chance to get her a peak at one or more of the three. also open for other suggestions but requirements re access, bedding, and ac seem to really limit options.

doubt she'd give up her sunsets, so maybe futile to look at aria and eventhough terrahawk has summer sunsets, that's not when we usually go, but who knows. a man has to do what makes the bride happy or no one at the homestead is happy.

anyone have any leads?

thanks for any help.

Contact the agents for the houses that you want to see and see if there's a 'turn-around day' that you can preview the property. They won't let you see a house if there are clients/renters there.

I do that everytime I'm on-island. I like to see a house before I rent it

We stayed next door to Terrahawk and I have been in the house twice. (We asked to go in when the cleaning crew was there because we were noisy)

The beach access is great.

Next door, we got some good sunsets in the winter with the sun dipping down over the Caneel area.

My pictures of the sunsets are on my home computer but I could email one to you if you would like.

diana2, thanks for your input, but we don't care to see the villas with cv rep. we were hoping a forum regular might be on site and be gracious enough to give us their take and a quick look. web sites always give decent view pics but can be very outdated as to furnishings and condition. bride's concern on access can be addressed only by that initial drive.

PA girl, thanks for your comments. take your word on sunsets, just seemed the times we were on island in dec and jan when sun was near southern solstice, the sun "set" south of stt; but there was often much color far to the north. the multi colors of pink, scarlet and purples through the clouds is the bride's thing so thawk meets that test. was the drive from north shore rd doable in a car? if so, thawk passes another test.

ok anyone stayed there in last year and have any comments on thawk?

We've never actually been taken through a house with an agent. They just give me a time of day when the cleaning crew is there after check out and that's when I do a walk through. You really see the house at it's worst so you have to keep in mind that when the cleaning crew is gone it looks soooooooooo much better.

In June we took our luggage up to our villa (Chateau Margot) which we had never seen prior to renting it. The people had just left and the cleaning crew had everything completely torn apart. I was very concerned about whether we had made a huge mistake by renting this place for 3 weeks sight unseen. We dropped off our luggage and left to grocery shop and have lunch in town etc. When we got back the ladies were just about done and we were amazed at how they had transformed the place.

diana2, thanks for further info. based on the posted calandars, all 3 villas turnover while we are on stj and i'll plan on trying to arrange some visits for a look. terrahawk that we are most interested in turns the day we leave so our departure from stj may be before cleaning crew gets in.

pa girl, i did a search on terrahawk after my last post and found another thread where you and a person who had stayed at terrahawk responded. the comment about small size doesn't matter since doen't take a lot of room for just be me and the bride and we each will have our own bedroom to "get out of the other's way" at appropriate times. but never though of the "darkness" issue. we are use to sunsets and stt and cruise ship lights as seen from upper tamarind and rockridge rds and gifft hill and a lot of evenings wining and dining on the deck enjoying the evening views. what's your take on the dark and the views after dark from staying next door?

thanks again,

Views after dark were very dark. From Kallaloo, we could see Caneel, small boats passing by and maybe a bit of St. homas.

When we stayed on Maria Bluff last year, we would see cruise ships all night long and we were surprised at how different the night views were from our prior stays.

One pleasant thing that really sticks in my mind is the outdoor sounds at Kallaloo/Terrahawk. Because of all the palm trees, the breeze rustles the branches. Combined with occasional surf noise, it was like listening to one of those relaxation CDs.

There was also a rooster, which I accepted as part of staying in a house surrounded by the park. Just mentioning it in case it would be troublesome for you.

was the drive from north shore rd doable in a car? Certainly. The driveway is steep but all concrete. No problems at all.

PA girl, thanks again. roosters always around on gifft hill so no real problem there. glad to know terrahawk drive is car accessible, since car saves almost 200 over jeep that'll help cover extra villa expense.

1st 4 trips to stj were with a car and while that limited where we went and created some anixous moments between trunk and peter bay hill, worked fine. next 4 trips we rented a jeep. that opened up some new areas (lameshure) and made other drives easier. bride has thought about and said she preferred to just go to "car places" in the future. after 41 yrs with the bride i've learned that the word "preferred" is normally a command.

we live in a very dark neighorhood and vacationed for yrs atlantic beachfront where minimum evening lights (except for those full moon occassions) so darkness is really no problem but those west view lights would be missed.

even paradise has her limitations!

Yes, it does. I have certain criteria that also must be met when chosing a place so I understand where your wife is coming from. You are a wise man :)
