Partial week car rental during high season?

Post by PA Girl »

Has anyone rented a vehicle for just a few days during high season? We have a vehicle reserved for the entire week but are considering adding a second vehicle for the back half of the week.

Not during high-season, but we've always only rented a vehicle for a few days during our November trips. I don't recall ever seeing that there was a minimum at any time.

Someone sent me a PM asking what island? We will be on St. John.

The rental I reserved is large enough for all of us but I think the other half of our party should have a vehicle so we are not stuck doing everything together.

I had less than good response from the first agency I called. They didn't say no, more like "why are you bothering me with this question."

On STJ in Feb there are more visitors than available rental vehicles. Most agencies will probably not take a reservation for less than 2 or 3 days since there are plenty of people who will rent it for the entire week.

However, some of the agencies who have the concessions at the westin and caneel like o'conner & cool breeze are required to hold back a certain # of cars to be available for daily rental for hotel guests and if they do not use them they become available to others. But its pretty much a book the day of or day before. Some of the other larger agencies like delbert hill and conrad may also sometimes be able to rent you a car 9 - 5 when know they know arriving person won't be in until evening so you can sometimes grab something here and there for use during the day.

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the information. I printed it off as a resource for our trip. Hubby is worried only one vehicle is going to tie the group together too much. The other (and much more frugal) half of the group doesn't see it that way.

During the upcoming pre-trip meeting, I will be sharing your information with them.
