Hillcrest Guest House

Post by JC »

Any one familiar with Hillcrest Guest House? My sister & her husband are looking for a last minute clean place to crash for a week in March...on a budget. Any reviews would be welcome! Thanks!

I was looking at Hillcrest last week and found only 1 (very positive review) by luvinSJ - they visited this past June.

I have emailed with Phyllis who has been very responsive.

I've always wanted to stay there, but haven't made it yet. Phyllis does seem very nice.

We stayed at Hillcrest (Front Suite) in March 06. At that time there were only two vacation rental units (Front Suite & Southern Suite). We were glad we took the Front Suite - it has the private balcony & it has the "no power lines" unobstructed picture post card view of Cruz Bay. The room itself was average (I believe some updating was done in 2007), but the stocking of the suite with food, snacks, liquor, etc., which was included with the rental price, was just awesome. And, Phyllis will ask you what you would like from a list of foods/drinks & if you want any substitutions, just let her know. She is incredibly accommodating without being intrusive at all.
We always made our own breakfast in the suite & then we were off exploring for most of the day.
This is a perfect place to use as a home base for exploring St. John, especially for first-timers. It is clean & a good value. A bit loud at night from the music in Cruz Bay, but you can wear earplugs & drown it out with the fan on the A/C.
By the way, we were there in March & never needed to run the A/C (had it on fan only) for sleeping. The Front Suite got such wonderful breezes.
If you need any additional info., just ask.
My dream is to live on St. John & vacation in Wisconsin(only in Summertime)!

Cheers!
