So what are my chances on getting a jeep?
So what are my chances on getting a jeep?
We will be arriving in St Thomas on Friday, 1/25/2008 and staying there for the night. We plan on catching an early ferry over to St John and are going to need a jeep for only one day, due to flight changes. Our 2 week rental starts the next day. I called a few places (Conrad Sutton actually laughed) and I was told by Courtesy to call the day before to reserve one, as they have 7 available at this time. St John Car rental said call that day.
So what do you think my chances are? It would make day 1 so much easier.
Only 18 days to go!!!!!

It's all about economics. It's high season and Mr. Sutton can rent every vehicle he has for seven days or more. A one day rental probably happens, but you have to be lucky...like one getting returned in the morning and doesn't go out until the next morning. And they have to have some down time for oil changes, tires, etc. It's probably the same amount of work for the rental agency for one day rental or seven. Can't blame them for wanting the longer rental. Again, it's high season.
As far as easier, I think "easier" would be to rent a Jeep upon your arrival on St. Thomas, if early enough, and ferry over that day without spending the first night on St. Thomas. You handle your luggage less and you are to your final destination so you can relax sooner. I have stayed in St. Thomas that first day and you get up the next day to "almost" do it all over again. That travel day going down is tough but if you can go another hour (+ or -), you're all set.
Just my 2 cents. Happy vacation!
