Holy..............Trip Counter BIG 30
Just noticed on the Merry Christmas thread. The big one way plane tickets are coming up in thirty days from today. The islands soon come!

Just the whole ship vs buy new issue. The plan at the moment is to only ship a couple of small boxes and take every piece of luggage we have and then just buy everything else when we get there (cost-u-less, kmart, etc.) I hope that's not a mistake. It still doesn't seem real, I'm sure it will sink in when we start having all the going away parties!brenda wrote:Any last minute jitters?

When I moved to STJ in 1996, I shipped a lot. I bought cheap sets of everything that I needed for the kitchen and shipped it down. I also sent a huge box of my favoriote toiletries.
If you can, have your boxes packed and addresses and ask someone to mail them for you after you leave. This was great for me, because it took me a few days to get settled and then the packages started coming in.

Congratulations!!
I really wish I knew how people do it...make that move.
I have my mother here, daughter and friends and although I'd jump at the chance to move to the islands, I keep thinking I have these responsibilities here.
I always wished that I could have warm weather year round. Just can't take another cold winter.
So...I'll just live by you and read your blog

Connie- It really is not as hard as most people think it will be. I left my family and friends as well. It is just like moving anywhere in the states. It is a lifestyle choice. The hard part is adjusting to island life, it is not leaving "home".
I always said that home is where you make it, not where you come from or where you family is.
That is why there are phones and planes. You can live anywhere and never be more than a day away from your family.

X is right, when I moved on island in 2003 to me it was just a change.
I shipped all my books down and we had so much rain they got messed up. My friend left them out on the deck in the box..........
I did not ship alot.......
I packed 3 suitcases full of stuff and shipped some to my buddy Jim at his home......
You really need alot less then you think.
What you find on island is 'do you really need that and miss it'
What I missed was a big bookstore to go in and read the Sunday paper and have my tea or coffee.
Did not miss the snow or traffic or rude people.
I would go back to STJ in a heartbeat to live and most probably will in a while........

Sounds good to me! I think I'll need a painkiller to get me settled in!
Which weekend will you be there?
