Island illness "viral in nature"
I spoke to a nurse at the clinic today. This illness that people have here is probably the same thing that's been circulating for a few months. We had it in October. 'Tis the Season.
It's "viral in nature" and starts out in the head and ends up as an upper respiratory thing. Probably the same thing that's circulating where you live. We've had a lot of rain here also in the last few weeks, and the high mold count is favorable for this viral thing to take hold.
I'm still not sure about this "Airborne" product, but Maryanne is very knowledgeable about these things and she recommends a product called "Blockade".
That's everything I know about this.

Ruth,
You are infamous. I am sure I have been in your store once or twice. You sell tea, no? I have plans to be on island in 2008 and you are tops on my list. Silly Bongo boys are making everyone famous!
Airborne is sold at K-mart and usually any place that has vitamins. The major ingredient is 1,000mg of Vit C among 16 other vitamins and herbs. It is supposed to boost your immune system. Here in the states, Wal-mart has a cheaper generic brand that is essentially the same thing. Can you take too much Vitamin C? Just curious. At least we won't have scurvy! Arrrrgh. (pirate talk...) Sorry, losing sanity has it's side effects...

Live, Laugh, Love
...and folks on the plane give me funny looks when I wipe down the tray table and seatbelt buckle with disinfectant wipes and then whip out my own travel blanket and pillow and turn off the airjets after pushback. (Yes, I am THAT crazy lady you most likely have seen - lol.) Someone told me that once they close up and push back from the gate that all of the air coming out of those things is recirculated - not sure if that's true but I am no longer taking chances. Won't drink their water, either. I rationalize that the ice is ok since it comes from the caterer - maybe it's not, but I only use it when I sterilize it with lots of rum. In the past I've been sick 3-4 days after returning from places other than the VI - I do believe it's the stuff you pick up on the planes.
