You know you've got it bad when...

Post by flip-flop »

You wake up in the morning and you realize you have been dreaming not only of St. John but of ways you can make a living on St. John!

This morning's dream involved me and the care of other people's childen. Anyone who knows me will know how funny that is. I LOVE my own kids and like other people's too but taking care of them is quite another matter. My husband laughed hard.

There has to be a niche not being filled!!! I just have to find it.

All I know if that we have a lot of equity in our house (bought in a very low market)...we could cash out and buy a REALLY nice boat :) Do day charters. Anyone want to come sail with Flip-Flop?

I'd need to learn to sail first of course. And of course Mr. Flip-Flop would have to agree to all the real work involved! How are the schools?

I have a business idea in mind, but I cannot figure out how I can afford a place to live. Even if I had 100% equity in my home here, it wouldn't get me anything on STJ.

I could live on a boat. What i can't figure out is how to educate my kids. I wonder how much tuition is at the St. John school.

I'm not a teacher, but I'm really smart.......Can't you just take me with you? I don't take up much space and I'm housebroken. :D

Damn Pia. My husband is NOT going to like you. That is way less than we are paying for aftercare for our kindergarten daughter and WAY less than pre-school around here.

And I read somewhere they have 100% college acceptance.

flip-flop,
I have mulled this over, too. Your children are absolutely beautiful and you can tell when they smile that they have been brought up well. They smile alot. Taking on other children would be rewardable, but challenging.

I have thought of getting a captain's license, too. My area is Lake Ontario. Specializing in birthday parties, fishing trips for kids, who knows... Upkeep of a boat, docking, storage...whew...

You have such a talent as a writer. It seems you and your family together will be happy no matter what you do.

She could do their hair also. According to the quotes, VickH is some sort of expert on hair care products.

I think instead of day-charters (that market seems saturated), overnight trips, (maybe 2 nights) would be good. Kind of like a sailing B&B.

When I looked for a short-term charter a few years ago, they were hard to come by. Finally found a couple, but i think they only agreed because it was still low season; but we had to go to Tortola to get picked up. I noticed that Bread&Water does one-nighters - I might look into that.

I also like MB's idea of "shuttling" folks around. From what I understand, it is hard to get taxi's to go to some of the villa areas. Maybe you could partner with some of the rental companies and be a "personal driver". I would hire you - we hate driving at night in St. John. It could be a great after school job for mini flip-flop ; beats babysitting - oh wait - it's probably very much like babysitting.

Happy dreaming,
janet

What about a personal shopper? You could do the food shopping to stock the villa, the shopping for gifts for people to take home to family, snorkeling or beach paraphernalia, print out boarding passes, restaurant suggestions....all for a nominal fee of course. :D

Thanks guys. You all really are enablers! If there is a way I will eventually find it. We just have to decide is this a 3 year, 5 year, 10 year or 20 year plan. You know what I am voting for!
