I have my receipt here from this store and thought I would share. Ruth asked me if I thought this store would make it but I really don't know how to answer that. We have stores like this in my area and I shop in them, therefore I was glad to have access to the types of things they carry. If you don't shop this way at home I don't think being on St. John will make you go in there. Here are some of the things we bought and the prices:
Artichoke tapanade $6.89
Pine Nut Hummus $5.79
Genoa Salami (a package of sliced salami) $3.99
Zabar sesame thins (crackers) $6.99
Truffle goat cheese $5.99
another cheese which is only listed as a deli item and it was $10.19 a pound.
carr's water crackers $4.99
cabernet cheddar $5.19
and there is a last item which I believe is the Soprasetta (sp?) which was $11.79
That last item seems a little high priced to me but the other prices were comprable to home in my opinion.
There was only one item in there that I picked up that shocked me. It was a package of a vegetable pate - that's how I can best described it. It was layered and it was orange (carrot), green (spinach I think) and one other layer which i can't recall. If it was 8 oz. it was a lot. The price was $18.75
I picked it up 3 times to see if I saw it right. And I did. I didn't get that one!

One of the things that attracts us to St. John is the fact that there is a decent selection of food markets, on a beautiful island, with great snorkeling. Except for the Sopresotta, the prices don't appear to be out of line for an island.
One of our favorite meals to cook is sauted Genoa salami, spring onions, and red peppers over olive oil pasta.
A visit to Starfish Gourmet is now on the agenda for February.

you will enjoy that store. as an aside i was very surprised at the selection I found at Lily's market in Coral Bay. I wasn't shopping for anything just looking and I saw Asagio and Reggiano out there. Just thought I would mention in case you are out that way.Roberto wrote:Thanks mbw1024

Roberto - that pasta dish sounds different; I've never cooked Genoa salami.
I think you might owe us some Food Porn.
