Day 5: Morning has broken

How do I know it's morning? Oh the roosters let me know this morning! EARLY! But that's ok. It was really the only day I heard them. Either they were really close this morning or I was sleeping like the dead on the other mornings. I think it was the latter. There's no doubt that this house is loud with the sounds of nature. Tree frogs, roosters all day (thought they were only yapping in the morning?), birds. I loved it be clearly not everyone feels that way. The guest book in the villa did not have too many entries but of the ones there EVERY one commented on the roosters, none in a positive way. Some even threatened violence to the little buggers :)

We decided to take advantage of our early wake up call and head out of the house. So it was right in to bathing suits, loaded up the beach bag, on to South Shore Rd. by 7:30. We stopped at the Deli Grotto for some breakfast sammies and 2 big cups a Joe and we pulled in to Trunk Bay parking lot before 8.

Slimman was already on duty (he also works for the National Park) but the beach wasn't officially open yet so we didn't have to pay.

There had been surf advisories up for the past 2 days and we could hear the ocean from the parking lot. From the sounds of it I thought we were going to encounter the Jersey Shore during a Nor'Easter but in reality it wasn't that rough. It just sounded rough. As it turns out they removed the surf advisory that morning.

Not a soul on the beach but us.

Another family showed up eventually and I think they were taking photos for a Christmas cards. The kids were all wearing white shirts and blue shorts and then a little while later I saw them in their swim gear :)

The beach was lovely as usual and the water was great. There was a bit of a current that was moving us down beach but it was nothing too bad.
It did start to get a little busy but we expected that. There were 5 or 6 ships in STT that day. I don't care that it gets busy. I love this beach and I know there will be other patrons there. I go when I want and enjoy. Trust me no crowded beach on STJ could compare to the Jersey Shore!

We had a spot near the life guard stand and for a long while no one was around us. Cool. Then they came. The screamer family. Screaming Mom, Screaming Dad, little boy screamer and little girl screamer. We had set our stuff up as far from the water line as we could because the water was coming up pretty far on the beach that day. So screaming Mom starts putting her stuff down right in front of me. I should have just let her do it but I was nice and I informed her that the sand was wet there because 5 minutes ago there were WATER right on that spot and perhaps she should consider moving her stuff to higher ground. To which she responded "OH". At least I got her to move to the side instead of in front of us

I don't have kids but I like kids however, I just don't always understand their parents! I'd say these kids were 6 and 4 and from the moment they arrived they were SCREAMING at the top of their lungs. Not just kids playing around having fun but screaming. No one says a word. I don't get it. Do you see the other people on the beach? Do you think they enjoy this? And to make matters worse the little girl was clearly afraid of the water, remember it was a little rough, and they kept putting her in it. Guess what she did? SCREAMED!

Ok, enough of that. Time for me to go back in the water and swim down stream for a while!

I think we were on the beach until around noon and then we headed to Mongoose. Actually now that I think of it we got to Mongoose a little before noon because our first stop was Tap Room and they weren't open  Found out later they open at noon.
So we did the next best thing and went to Ocean Grill for lunch. I had fish tacos and Charlie had blackend Mahi Mahi. Very good.

Then we went back to the Tap Room for a few :)

From there we stopped at Starfish for some steaks and chicken for tonight's dinner and headed back to the villa where we remained for the rest of the afternoon/evening.

Confusious says time to relax by the pool

Your pictures tell such a great story, you almost don't need to write a report! Nice job!

Your pictures are lovely.

We had a resident rooster when we stayed at Kallaloo and our friend made a serious attempt to hunt him down. No luck, of course, but it wasn't for lack of trying.

AHHHHH Trunk in the morniing, beach to yourselves, no screaming kids, don't have to pay, Priceless. Next time Screamers happen head down to the left all the way to the rocks not many go all the way down there, gorgeous little area. We have a family that lives behind us like that, we call them the screamers to all our friends. Drives me nuts sure the kids can't help it all the parents do is scream at them.
AWESOME PICS What villa is that again?

Great report! I love Trunk in the early morning.
We had screamers there in June. I kind of tune that out because I hear screamers at work all day.

Thanks MaryBeth---I've really been loving your reports---the great photos really make it. I've always wanted to do Trunk in the early morning but I generally have too much fun the night before and it doesn't happen--will have to plan for it this next trip. Lots of great "food porn" too!

Very nice photos MB.

Trunk rules in the morning.
Later in the day, its like Yogi said - nobody goes there because its too crowded.

Wow MaryBeth! Beautiful pictures of Trunk Bay! Between Sea-nile's and your trip reports, going to Trunk in the early morning is a must on our next trip!
(At least until the screamers show up that is! )

Perfect. Your pictures are gorgeous! I sooo need to be there NOW!! We had the same experience at Trunk in August. Perfection...until "The Family" arrived. Although the entire beach was still open and the plopped all of their stuff down right in front of us. Are people blind or what???? We gathered all our belongings up and moved way to the left and they didn't even seem to notice!
