new trip coming... 5 bedroom villa suggestions?

Post by Dave-a-roni »

Hey everyone, a 2nd trip is in the works for this July... (Yahoo!!) we've rounded up atleast 10 people right now so were lookin at 5 bedroom villas. La Jolla Caribe is so far available, within budget, and overlooks Cinnamon... so this seems really nice. Has anyone stayed here or know someone who has? Also, does anyone have any 5 bedroom villa suggestions?

I'm also lookin forward to actually putting in a ticker! :)

Thanks in advance.

Ristaba worked well for my family. We used the cottage and the house.

It won't have the awesome views you get above Cinnamon Bay, but it is VERY convenient to town.

We looked into staying there again this summer when we go, but it was booked for our dates.

I watching this thread as we (well, actually just Hubs and his friends) are back to planning a group trip with the couple-I-know-we-should-not-be-travelling-with. Teen kids included, we need at least four bedrooms and likely five if couple #4 joins us. (For reason too complicated and stupid to explain, seperate houses won't work.)

five bedroom villas

Post by BN38 »

I haven't posted in forever but am a regular lurker. It is interesting to see this site evolve. We are staying at Maria Breeze up on Maria Bluff overlooking Great Cruz Bay in February-March. It is 5 bedroom / 5 bath. It is listed by Seaview Homes.

It is pretty reasonable. Not new but all the rooms are said to be the same - King size beds and ensuite baths. It came recommended by a former regular poster - JSS3.

We checked out Allesandra when MrB and MrsB were there. I think the Rock Ridge area has a number of nice villas that would be great to rent together. One reason to consider is whether you REALLY want to have 10 people in one villa? 10 people turns out to be significantly more than 8 people.

In 2004 we had 5 couples stay at Villa Caribe, the Peter Max house that is no longer on the rental market. That was a lot of people to coordinate.

Remember Rick G's advice re: group traveling and rent a cars. I didn't and regreted it.

I also second the advice to get separate, but nearby Villa's .It's your vacation too and you get to have the vacation you want!!!!( Also words I wished I had lived by!)

Ten people is a lot, but it can be done! We have done it before. The key is to be organized while still allowing for individuals to "drop in" or "drop out" of a plan.

Check out Vida de Mar in Dever's Bay - not high up views if that's what you are looking for, but the nice thing about is it is in a secluded bay, but very convenient to town. Each bedroom is an individual pod, so you can still be together but not necessarily on top of each other. Also, has a cool beach house with two of the bedorooms right on the beach! Not sure if this villa is what you are lookig for, but thought I would point it out anyway.

Right next to Vida da Mer is Sunset Beach as well. You can split the group up a bit if you like. Dream Come True and Dolphin Run are close by too.

I really should keep this to myself on the off-chance that someone in the group would ever find the forum and figure out my identity but I can’t help myself -

Initially, I refused to consider the idea all together but was persuaded to revisit it on the condition that it would be an add-on summer trip and would not take the place of MY winter trip.

My first idea was that we all stay in separate units at either Caneel or the Gallows. No, no, speaks the group, the Gallows won’t work because the “boys” want a private pool. Also, certain members (the one I am married to) of the group are very particular and getting one of the less nicely furnished units would be a problem. Caneel was deemed too pricey for some and the pool situation again became an issue.

Second idea was let the balance of the group find their own place to stay based on their own desires/budget and we (hubs, son and I) would stay at Caneel. Given that our kids are so far apart in age, separation is actually a good thing. Hubs (the man who is so, so particular about his accommodations/access to the beach/convenience) deemed this idea as “too snotty” of me. (Still scratching my head about that one.)

The big thing is these guys, when they get together, like to party hard. No one (me included) wants to drive “home” to the villa after a good stint of beer drinking at a different villa. Adjoining houses (within walking distance) would be ideal.

I thought about Terrahawk/Kallaloo as a good choice given the location and the proximity of the two houses. Vida de Mar looks perfect for us. The configuration of the bedrooms would work well for the two families as well as the couple travelling without their college age son.

This subject came up last week at dinner so I am going to compile a list of places and outline costs for summer 2008 and see where it takes us.

Have you looked at Chateau Margaux? I haven't seen it, other than web pictures, but have had my eye on it for a few months. The price doesn't seem too bad considering you'll have several families to split the cost.

Here's the link. http://acharminghideaway.com/chateau-margaux.html

PA GIRL:

Check out Hibiscus and Via Del Sol, I know nothing about them, but according to CV's website they are identical homes next door to each other. This way everything is equal.

PS... Have u thought about sending the boys by themselves

If I have the right places I think these villas are now part of the Westin time share program or something like that.

Haven't stayed in La Jolla Caribe but I always thought it looked hard to beat for the price.

As to other 5BR villas, we've stayed at Villa Panache, which we really loved---5 very nice bedrooms, wonderful great room, excellent water view.

We also stayed at Monte Bay, which was very nice (but I think there are better options for the price).

Coco Caribe is a brand new 5 BR that looks nice---don't like that view quite as well though.

Villa Tesori is another new 5BR with a great high view of the south shore.

I drove by Villa Oceana on Great Cruz Bay several times on our last trip---really looks gorgeous to me---smallish pool though.

We had 17 when my entire family went down there and all but my parents stayed at Ristaba. My parents wanted some away time from us so they stayed at Estate Linholm.

Ristaba was PERFECT for our family and close enough to town that my brother could get taxis back (except one night when it was too late). I think it cost him $7.

The cottage was not too far away and So and I and Cat and hubby were the two couples that stayed in there. In gave us privacy when we wanted it, but we hung out in the main house most of the time.

The set up is great and the pool is very big.

p.s. part of the reason we were able to fit so many in that house was that we had 4 kids under 6 that slept with their parents.
