Slighty OT: NASA Survey Hoopla
This is OT from a VI perspective, but it’s about air travel. You're all frequent fliers, so I'm interested in your thoughts as I realize that I’m hearing the media’s take on this.
I've been reading the articles about the NASA survey on air safety problems from the perspective of pilots. (Apparently the results show that air safety issues are seriously under-reported.) NASA is now backtracking from initial statements that made it sound like they are withholding the survey results because they might affect airlines' profits. NASA now says that they aren't putting commercial interests ahead of public safety, BUT they still aren't releasing the survey results.
I'm embarrassed to admit that I’m not positive about this
but isn’t NASA funded with tax dollars? If the public paid for the survey ($8.5M!), shouldn’t we get to hear the results? If safety issues are under-reported, shouldn’t the airlines feel some public pressure to improve? I find this troubling and I’m interested in your thoughts.
