One Stop Shopping-Supplies for ST John

Post by Sharkbait »

Renting a jeep on STT to take over to St John and would like to pick up our supplies before we head over. Was hoping to be able to pick everything up at one store if possible. If it is possible I know you knowledgable folks would be able to send me in the right direction. Below is our list thus far. Seems to me I heard of a K Mart being on the way from the airport to Red Hook.

Tiki Lamps and oil
Batteries
Beach Chairs
Beer
Rum
Coke
Bottled Water
Munchies- Chips, Granola Bars, Cookies, etc

As you can probably tell from the list we are camping, at Cinnamon Bay, staying in one of the cabins. Not my idea, though I plan to have a fabulous time without televison and running water in our cabin. Our flight doesn't land until 3:30 and with sunset being around 6:30 I was hoping to get checked in and settled before dark set in, so didn't want to spend a bunch of time shopping.

Thanks.

You should be able to get everything you need on STJ, except fot the Tiki lamps, which I am not sure why you would need them.

You can stop at Kmart but I like to get STJ and get settled in right away.

Not sure if you will want to stop or not.

Depending when you are ariving it is dark as early as 6pm (currently it is dark at 6:15pm) and if you land at 3:30pm by the time you are on your way (remember it can take up to 45 mins for luggage), a 35 min drive to Red Hook, a 30 min crossing time (plus wait time for a ferry as you can miss one by seconds and have to wait at least 30 mins for the next - that's if they are all running and right now we are down one ferry) add a 15 min drive to Cinnamon you will be there - without stopping - at about 6pm.

I can't count the times I have stood in line at K Mart for 15+ mins and moved not one person forward. Just lately they seem to have a whole new spin on "island time" so more often than not I end up leaving without checking out.

Just something to think about as you can get everything here on STJ - my vote is also to get here and get settled in asap :)

Tiki Lamps aren't a neccesity, just thought they would be nice @ the campground, not worth a special stop for though.

Which would then bring me to the question as to where is the best place to stop on STJ for supplies? I have heard Starfish and Dolphin mentioned, would one work better logistically for getting to Cinnamon Bay from Car Barge?

Speaking of Car Barge. Does this unload in Cruz Bay, close to the people ferry? Trying to get a feel of where we will be going once we land. Especially if we end up trying to find our way in the dark.

Thanks again.

The car barge lands very close to Starfish Market. The next cove over from Cruz Bay. Just up the street I am sure that PIA can give you exact directions.
