Need suggestions

Post by designbyroe »

I am headed with 2 friends to Jost on Jan 12. The problem I have found is we do not get in to STT til 2:30p and I do not think we will make it to the ferry at Red Hook to get us over to Jost.
We only need someplace for one night on STJ.
Suggestions?
I will also contact my buddies on island to see what they know of as well.
Help.........

You should be able to catch the Tortola ferry with no problem. From there, the JVD ferry runs reasonably late in season. I would just try to get all of the way there.

Are you staying at Ivan's?

Rick is correct; you should be able to get to West End Tortola and then on to Jost.

Here is a link for the BVI Ferry Schedule; if anything, there would be even more options in season.

We were going to stay at Ivans on Sat Jan 12. We are booked at the White Bay Villas from Sun Jan 13- Thur Jan 17.
Ivan has room for us, I am just worried if we do not reach Red Hook by 4p or so there is no ferry. I checked in the Tradewinds the ferry schedule and it says last one is 4p............

Thanks for posting the BVI schedule. I emailed my friends on island as well to let me know of the season schedule.
It would not be bad to have to stay on STJ for one night since my 2 friends have never been. That is why I wanted suggestions for 1 night

Since it is season, Tamarind can not just one night, asking for 3 night minium.
Also from what I have been told, we will most probably make the ferry to Tortola but not from Tortola to Jost. The ferry from Tortola to Jost last one is 4p and we do NOT even get to the airport at STT til 2:30P..........
HELP!!!!
We are staying at White Bay Villas do they have a ferry service from Tortola?

I'm sure you can get a one-night stay at one of the hotels on STT if there's no way to get to Jost that evening. Not ideal, but it'd be a place to stay.

You may also be able to hire a private boat to take you over, but I think the main problem is that customs is only open at a certain time. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

I would probably stay on STT for one night and then ferry over to Jost as early as possible the next morning. That way you could get the party started the day you arrive on STT!

I agree with staying your first night on STT. In season, I was unable to find anyone that had one night available on St. John. It was even difficult to find a place on STT for one night.

I also checked the ferry schedule and it leaves Red Hook for JVD at 8am and 2pm on Sundays!

Thanks everyone........I pretty much figure during season 1 night is not an option at alot of places.
My friends have never been to STJ so another reason to stay that Sat night was for them to check it out.
I was thinking coconut coast villas on STJ may be one.
My friend told me about a water taxi that runs from Tortola to Jost but even she is not sure it goes after 4p on a Sat.
I figure we could leave on the first 8A boat to Jost on Sunday..........
What hotel would you all suggest for 1 night on STT?
I know Wyndham at Sugar Bay and Mariott Frenchmans Reef and the Ritz but I am betting they will all be pretty $$$.
I also know that STT is not the safest place at night.

If you do a search on Hotels.com you will find a ton of STT hotels.

I have to disagree though with your safety statement. There are plenty of places to hang out in STT at night. You just have to be smart and aware of your surroundings.

I had friends in Smith bay and I taught at Sugar Bay. that is my basis. I spent a fair amount of time in Red Hook......those are my points of reference.
Granted this was 2003,04,05 so things could be better. You may have been on island more recently.
I will check hotels.com. Thanks

How fun to stay on JVD! That is on my "to do someday" list.
I have not stayed on STT, but I have read good things about Secret Harbour. It is an all-suite resort, on the beach, near Red Hook. I'm not sure about their rates/availability that time of year, but it may be worth checking into.

Rich at Dolphin shuttle (just talked to) looks like he can do it.....he will meet us at Red Hook or even downtown and take us over to Ivans.......he say they do drop off at White Bay all the time and it is 250.00 so 60.00 for each of us not bad......
so looking good...........
