Dinner reservations for 9
This is my first posting although I've been reading this wonderful forum since we first booked our trip back in April, so here is some background: we are two families (4 adults w/ 5 daughters, ages 3-12) staying at Great Expectations Feb 3-10. First trip to St. John for both families, can't contain the excitement as we're under 90 days! We've booked the Jeep rentals already as well as provisioning and an in-villa dinner w/ Katilady. I'm wondering whether we need reservations for dinner, and if so, how far out do I make them? Which restaurants take reservations? We're considering Lime Inn, Zozo's, Morgan's Mango, Pastory Gardens...also, any of these not recommended for children?...thoughts please?
Hi,
Just my thoughts as I have only traveled to St. John in the off season and never with a large group. But have made reservations on occasion at Morgan's Mango, Asolare and Stone Terrace.
Since you're traveling in the high season, I would recommend that you make reservations. I believe ZoZos and Lime Inn would take reservations also. Pastory Gardens would be great with the kids as you could all play mini-golf before/after dinner. You may also want to consider Banana Deck.
When I have made reservations, it is typically the week I'm on island; however, I think you would be best making them 2-3 weeks prior.
While I'm here, I must gloat a tad. We leave tomorrow for Virgin Gorda and will be arriving at the Cruz Bay ferry dock 1 week from today
You will love your first trip and will plan many, many more.

Hey martini girl (like your name!),
We (family of 14) stayed at Great Expectations in July 2004. Reading your post brought a smile to my face with the memories of that wonderful family trip.
If you have any questions about the vila, feel free to ask or PM me.
The island was pretty busy that 4th of July week, but we never made reservations (for 14!) until the day before or the day of. I can't compare the 4th crowd to the Feb. crowd, because I've never been on STJ in Feb. It certainly wouldn't hurt to make reservations ahead of time, and that wil be one less thing to think abut once your there.
The only restaurant that couldn't seat us all together was the Lime Inn. Not enough room for that many people!
Sigh.......I'm ready to go back!

I would definitely recommend reservations at all the restaurants mentioned for a group that size in February. Not necessarily before you get here, but a day or so ahead. The Lime Inn does not accept reservations on Wednesday (All-You-Can-Eat-Shrimp-Night) but with notice they would have no problem with a group that size.

I enjoy Zozo's as a great restaurant with a great view. Sunsets are great and I've often seen large parties there and best against the rail. Reservations are a must but certainly can be made when you get there a few days ahead.
Lime Inn, nothing better than the all you can eat shrimp night. Everything's great.
Morgan's is good food. I don't consider it anything to really right home about. But it is a nice evening out and lots of space for big parties. They have music one night but forget when.
