'married away' on today

Post by onthelake »

Hey gang,

I caught part of the Married away show this morning. It was on the Style network at 6:30. The wedding was 7/07/07 on St John. I was getting ready for work so only caught some of the shots ... but it looked beautiful. 8)
Did anyone else see it? Is it going to be replayed later?

Have a great day!!!

I watched most if it last night. There were a few nice shots of STJ, but I was hoping to see more. (For those who missed it, the show swapped back and forth between a couple getting married in STJ and a couple getting married in West Virginia.)

I was laughing about the wedding planner obsessing over the chairs, and the groom-to-be looking painfully bored at the florist. Even as a bride, I'd be thinking: Who cares? Let's go to the beach already!

We watched it last night. I was happy to see St. John get some coverage.

But, the show was painfully superficial and did little more than reinforce the spend-spend-spend mythos of the wedding business. The idea of bringing in a wedding planner, assistant and hair stylist from LA was ridiculous.

Save yourself some trouble and watch some of the Travelistic videos.

I watched it. Where was the ceremony location?
I can't imagine getting married on St John and NOT getting married on one of their many beautiful beaches!!!

I thought maybe it was Estate Lindholm, but it looks like they rented a villa.

I don't think they do weddings at Estate Lindholm any more - so I wonder where it was? I will have to TiVo it to see!

It looked to me like the ceremony was at Gallows Point (at sunset)?

We watched it last night because of a personal interest. We met the couple and all their friends on the Calypso. We were the only two non marriage party folks on the boat. In fact if you tivo back and forth you will see Ms Promoguy and catch a glimpse of my fat head and moustache.

Since the couple was from LA we got to know them and were in fact invited to the reception at Zozo's. Great folks. Her father was a retired LAPD and since my son is currently on the job we talked a lot.

The wedding was at Gallows and I watched it from the pool. Quite nice and if you just watch the show, you really don't get the whole deal of how nice it was. Funny thing was watching the wedding planner dab his sweaty head about every two minutes.

We met up with the producer after the wedding and had dinner with her. If you saw the way the show was being filmed and then what was shown on TV, you have to wonder. She was the most frazzled women you've ever met making sure the shots and everything were just right. They obviously take hours of footage but only use a small portion.

The show really didn't capture the wedding and the people with the short clips and the back and forth with the other wedding.

We are still in touch with the parents, newly weds. Nice decent folks.

Actually, its good to hear that something was lost in translation. I expect they did not get to do much up front prep work for the shoot, and that seemed to be the theme of the whole show. The painful point for me is that reflected poorly on the island. Oh well, I'm glad you got to meet the people and it sounds like everyone had a good experience, except the producer!

Warning! Rant ahead!
Most of you know that I don't usually rant, but here goes...

I almost missed it since on the show description on satellite they never mention STJ. That being said it was fun to see the island from a different perspective.

They made such a big deal about the wedding planner having to ferry back and forth from STT to STJ. My question is, why didn't they make a hotel reservation for this guy ahead of time?

I also hate how these emphasize the negative and build up a faux crisis (e.g. "I don't even KNOW the dry cleaner, will they ruin the dress?" or "it's 1:45 and the wedding is in 7 hours - will the dress be ready??") As if the florist and drycleaners are both completely inept and have no interest in doing a good job for these folks. If I were them I would have been annoyed.

Rick G is right, I think there's way too much hype on "wedding planning" these days and way too much money spent on weddings in general.

Hubby and I had a really nice small wedding (including the airline tix to STJ) for about $7,000. I called in every favor imaginable and kept the guest list to immediate family. I had several friends and co-workers get married at the same time we did and spent anywhere from $30,000 - $75,000 for their weddings (this was in 1998). Guess what? They are ALL divorced.

I just hope people are putting as much time and attention into the MARRIAGE as they are into the WEDDING.

end rant.
*Another fine scatterbrained production

It was painfully obvious that this couple had been to StJ one time and did very little if ANY research into all that the island has to offer. In their defense, the reason they brought in a "wedding planner" from CA was because the local one they had through what must have been Gallows quit or was fired.

Anyway, I guarantee you if they had been on island a couple of more times the ceremony location, reception, everything would have been different.

Her dress was really nice ;)

Having just returned from a 75K Texas wedding, this was NOTHING compared to how far people can go. I mean truly unreal. I am just happy that when I look back my fondest memory was of tears being brought to my eyes at my reception when I looked around and every face I saw was that of someone who I loved, who had loved me and been there for me through every stage of my life including some who traveled from as far as Japan and Europe to be there. Oh, and it was a great party!

I though their reception was at Ocean Grill, not Zozo's. At least it showed shots of the Ocean Grill sign. Maybe it was the rehearsal dinner! A recpetion at Zozo's makes way more sense.

I watched this last night. It was nice seeing STJ and all of the places that look familiar.
However, now I am glad that my daughter says IF she gets married it will be with just a few friends/family and at a heavy metal concert. Great, I will provide the ear plugs!

If I got married on STJ it would be on a beach and I sure wouldn't give a hoot about the chairs!
