Alas, Last Day Tortola, Sandy Spit and Jost

Post by benchill »

Today was our last day on island. The week has flown by with nary a minute wasted!
We rented a 29 ft Donzi with twin 225's on it today to head out to the BVI's. I was reluctant to part with the cash necessary to do this, but it was money well wasted!

Foxy's was close for the low season but we had the honor of sitting with old Foxy himself at a table and talking with him for an hour. He told joke after joke and seemed to really enjoy his audience.

I will post about the rest of our week when I get home. Hints: Power Outages, Changing Houses (Coco Caribe..wow), beaches, and, yes, food porn.

Our worthy craft.

Looking forward to the whole story.

I think I napped in that hammock in White Bay - can't wait to get back.

Great photos Ben! I've been interested in Coco Caribe so I'm anxious to hear the report on that house.

Do you mind sharing where you rented the Donzi from? Looks to be in better shape than most center consoles I've rented there.

Hi Wakeclt,

We rented from Ocean Runners. Great folks. Right there next to the Beach Bar and Low Key Dive Shop.

We went from Cruz Bay to West End Tortola to Sandy Spit, to White Beach and back to Cruz Bay..Fuel cost was about $135 and oil was about $20.

Ben-
Did you have to clear customs in the BVI? How long did that take?
How long was the ride from Cruz Bay over there? How did the boat handle the waves and how big were they?
Sounds like a really cool way to spend a day!
Thanks

We rode over to West End, Tortola in about 25 minutes doing about 40 MPH. We were the only ones at the customs house and we cleared in about 10 minutes. They give you a pretty cool permit that we will frame.

Seas were a bit rough from a tropical wave that passed but were still more than tolerable. I would think that most days would be smoother. But remember it is the ocean, so nothing is "normal".

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
