Parafins trip report #4

Post by parafins »

7/20 I packed the jeep with our supplies and stopped in at Rhonda and Morgan's place at cottage #3 to swap trip reports. Rhonda showed me iguananas in two trees by her cottage. Cool! They seemed to be enjoying the morning sun. Shorty after we were on our way to Leinster Bay. By now it was 8:30 a.m. The park service must have repaired the road going to the dirt parking lot. That made the hiking trip a whole lot shorter. The sky was overcast for a short while then returned to sunshine. My daughter and I headed off for the cay. At the cay I left her there to explore while I snorkeled. I spotted many seastars to the north west of the sandy beach. They were in about 15 ft. of water. I continued around the cay enjoying the beautiful reef. About the time I finished many boats showed up and there were snorkelers everywhere! I then noticed my daughter's floatie had disappeared. So I returned to my family on the main shore for a lifejacket. Then I went back to retrieve her, and once more swam back to the rest of the family. We never did see any turtles although I did hear someone say "turtle" as we left. :( ImageWe headed back to the cottage for lunch. Everyone seemed tired so I went off to Maho Camps alone. Once there, I went down to Little Maho and snorkled around the point to Big Maho. This is one of my favorite snorkel trails! It is also home to Queen and French Angelfish. I love the rocky ledge with all the coral and creatures. I used the goat trail to return to the jeep. I headed back to the cottage and all of us went to town to shop. We also visited the Battery. Nice views from there. We left for Maho Camps for dinner. The prime rib was tasty and the views were out of this world. They had a movie afterwords: "Madagascar." We spent some time at the glass store and then headed back to the cottage for some R and R. I didn't have a good pic from this day, so I included a pic taken at Gibney Beach by our friend Mary Lou. Thanks Mary Lou!!

Parafins - that part of Maho is my favorite snorkel spot because of all of the angelfish; although, this year we saw an angelfish at Francis almost as big as a door mat.

I am really enjoying your reports, can't wait for the next installment.

Parafins,
I'm really enjoying seeing your family (infoto) again! Superb camera! I'm wondering if you ever considered staying at Cinnamon. My two children (about the ages of your youngest and oldest) loved the campground and all the activities kept them busy throughout the day. This was back in the early '80's and Cinnamon hasn't changed AT ALL! They are grown now with their own children and they want this grandma to take them all back to Cinnamon.

Is there a way I can contact you directly through email in the hopes that you could send more of your photos of your July trip to me?

Thanks for sharing your adventures!

Cinnamon Bay Camps..

Post by parafins »

Mags, In June of 2006 we stayed one night at Cinnamon Bay Camps. We stayed in one of the cottages. It's a bit like camping {Samuel Cottages was a more comfortable} but i'm a camper at heart. I loved the idea that the beach was near. I might try it again so that I could night snorkel more often!! Parafins....
