Best way to Virgin Gorda for a day trip.

Post by Steve S »

We may want to visit some friends on Virgin Gorda for a day when we are on St. John this spring. We'd like to get a full day in while we're there. The ferry returns at 3:00 which doesn't seem to leave much time actually on the island after all the customs activity and whatever land travel we need. Any suggestioins?
There will be 5 of us.

The public ferries don't offer much in the way to Virgin Gorda; even if you're willing to go to St. Thomas, Tortola, the schedule is limited. And you typically need to travel between the West end and Road Town Tortola; and if you're doing it on a weekend, customs is quite an adventure.

You may be able to get to Tortola later in the day and could overnight at the Jolly Roger (West End); or possible overnight at Fischers cove or some other lodging close to Spanishtown in the VG.

Not sure what a private taxi might run.

We loved Virgin Gorda.

I would think about contacting "Lion in da Sun" maybe (or any other company :)) and do a private full day charter. I would guess it would be in the $125.00 per person range but you would have from 8am to 5pm to do exactly as you want - you could go to VG and also get in some snorkeling etc during the day. Expensive I know but you would not be tied down to public ferries - just make a fun full day out of it - something to think about :)
