Parafins July trip #2

Post by parafins »

7/18. Had some rain in the morning followed by a rainbow. Left the cottage around 8:40 and headed for Oppenheimer Beach. This was my second visit to this beach, my wife's first. I had visited in June 2006. I thought my wife would enjoy this beach and boy she did!Image These are her words "Loaded with palms, beautiful soft white sand, and vivid water color." As we snorkeled and enjoyed the warm water, my son Daniel claimed that he saw a spider in the water. My wife didn't believe him. But on a closer look she discovered that it was a small Brittle sea star. Cool!! Later, we walked the beach and met a lady named Mary Lou. She was staying at one of the Gibney cottages. As we talked she asked if we would like to see the interior. I couldn't resist! Wow what a nice place! I fell in love with it. As the beach began to fill up with people we decided to head for Francis. We snorkeled Francis and enjoyed watching the pelicans. After Francis we stopped in at Maho Camps and enjoyed views of Whistling Cay. Maho Camps has less that 5 years left on their lease! By this time my daughter had been in the sun too long so we headed back to our cottage for a break. After a little rest, we visited Cinnamon Bay and went to the far east end. There was no one there and we had some quality family time. Yes, I did snorkel there too. I saw 7 cuttle fish {reef squid} along with other interesting fish. By that point we called it a day. Back at the cottage we said hello to our 5 cats. {O.K. Samuels, cats.} The kids gave all of them names. Our supper was chichen tacos. The kids ate indoors and we ate outdoors by candlelight. :D I must add this, Patrice who is one of the owners of Samuel cottages gave us a refund for our time without electric! Wow was this lady ever so nice!! Parafins..

Parafins,
Great report, looking forward to the next one.
Island Girl & I went to Pontiac for the Arts,Beats,&
Eats festival.Saw some paintings of Maho Bay that one
of the vendors had. Made us homesick for the island.
Your trip report was an excellent pick-me-up !!

Thanks from a fellow Michiganian !!

Parafins - am enjoying your reports! Love hearing about Samuel's Cottages and would love to hear more about the Gibney Beach Cottages.

I didn't realize Maho Bay Campground only has 5 more years on their lease. What do you think will happen???

p.s. can't wait to hear more!

I did not get my 3rd report out yet.Sorry, but it has been so busy at my house. My wife's high school friend is coming to stay with us this weekend. She is from Houston.Anyways my wife wanted the house to look like a museum!Try that with 3 kids and 2 dogs!! Nothintolose, I think Maho will just pack it up and put all it's efforts into Concordia. From the looks of things they are already doing so.I think the Harmony Studios will stay.I believe the are on property own by them.I must admit I like the Maho area better than I do Concordia. But that's just my opinion. It seems a bit hotter and arrid at Concordia. If you get a chance, visit Concordia. It is very nice and has great views of Salt Pond and Drunk Bay.Now as far as Samuel Cottages and Gibney Cottages go they are two different worlds. For one ,the price. The other is the location.Isn't Gibney about 3,000.00 a week? Both seem to be about the same size. The thing I liked about Gibney was that you could crawl out of bed,put on your snorkel mask, walk a few steps and "boom"! there's the water!!! Parafins

Hello, Parafins!
I finally found you---I could not remember which forum you told me you frequented so I tried them all and then registered here.
I am so enjoying your trip report and I'd love to see more of your photos---especially any taken on Gibney beach. When my children were very young, we often stayed at the Samuel cottages. Thanks for bringing back those memories.

Hey parafins, the Gibney cottages are $4,000k/week in low season, and $6,000k/week in high season! Pretty steep, if you ask me!
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Gibney cottages

Liamsaunt,Yes I would agree they are a bit steep.For some it might not be a big deal. Did you see the prices for Kenny C's old place in Peter Bay?I think that puppy's going for 15,000.00 a week! Now that's something to bark about! :D Now on to Mary lou! Hello Mary lou good by heart....O.K. I know that's a old Ricky Nelson song. I'm so glad to hear from you! When I get home i'll let the wife know that you wrote.Thanks, Parafins{Dan}
