Parafins July trip report #1

Post by parafins »

7/16 We leave the driveway at 3:15 a.m. Off to O'Hare. The flight went well and was on time. We used U.S.Air. I found the rum punch, gulped it down, grabbed our bags and then off to the taxi. Car sickness struck my wife and son on the way to Redhook. The boat ride over didn't help matters for my wife. My son seemed to improve. We arrived at Samuel Cottages around 5:00 p.m.Image As my wife recovered, I visited Rhonda and her husband Morgan who occupied cottage #3. I met Rhonda on this forum about 2 months before. Nice folks. Every morning after that I would meet them and swap trip reports. 7/17 Out of the cottage by 10:00 a.m. Picked up lunch at Subway. Off to Hawksnest. All the picnic tables were taken by a large family reunion so we ate in the jeep. Then off to Caneel Bay. We visited Honeymoon and Salomon. This was our first visit to this area. I was suprised at the length of Honeymoon beach. Very beautiful!! Next was the hike to Salomon. We saw a deer along the way. Salomon seemed to be a shorter beach with wonderful palms. No naked guy reports, sorry! Later we left for Starfish market to pick up supplies. We then returned to our cottage to find no power. The owners called and told us it could be days. Some type of explosion occured on S.T.T. The cottage had an electric stove so we drove over to the Westin for a hot meal. They did a great job under a lot of pressure. Hotdogs, hamburgers, and fish were served. A hodge podge of things from the kitchen. Later we returned to the cottage and tried to get some sleep. I was a sweaty mess. Around 1:00 a.m. the power came on, Yeh!!!

Parafins, how long did it take you to hike from Honeymoon to Salomon? We visited Honeymoon for the first time this year and would like to try Salomon next year. We'll have friends with us so I'd like to know how long the hike is before I drag them along. :)

Is that Sirenusa looming up on the hillside behind the cottage?

Nice start! Did you enjoy the cottages? How was the noise from the sirenusa construction?
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Thanks for the start of the report! When I saw your picture it didn't dawn on me that it could even be St. John and then I remembered Sirenusa. Look forward to hearing more!

Question time....

Post by parafins »

Jorge,I'm glad to have made your day. I have wanted to do this report for sometime now but have been too busy.So I'll do my best to get it all in this week. KPlumm,The trail from Honeymoon to Salomon is fairly short. It goes around a home that is between both beaches. The only down side to it is that it goes uphill then down to Salomon. It is somewhat rugged.Take your time.My children made it just fine.Daniel our youngest is 4 yrs. old.He had no problem.{with dad's help of course} Liamsaunt,Wesure did enjoy the cottage.Nothing fancy, but clean and nearly bug free.I never did see any ants around like I did at Gull Cottage. All cottages have a ocean view, but cottage#3 has the best. The noise from the contruction never seemed to be a problem.Keep in mind that we left by 8:30 every morning and would come back only for lunch or dinner. Rhonda, Thank you! I sure miss you guys!!

So if you are on the path going to honeymoon, do you just keep going or do you have to branch off to a trail or something?
