Ever had friends stay only part of the week?

Post by augie »

We have some good friends that at one time had talked about spending the week with us at our villa.

That had seemed to fall through, but now I'm hearing from them that they're looking into the possibility of spending three or four days on the island after they've been on a cruise.

Do you think the rental agency would allow them to join us, and if so, would be willing to just have us pay the difference in price for the additional people for only the days they are there?

I can speak for all rental agencies but DSJ charges per night based on how many are there for the night. Eg. we booked Ambiance for 10 nights -- 9 nights had 6 adults so we paid that rate, 1 night had only 4 so we paid the 4 person rate. They did all the math for us and it was really simple to work out.

Vacation Vistas charges by a weekly rate, no matter how many nights you have people there. So, for example, the week John and I were alone at Cinnamon Tarn we paid the two person rate, and the week my parents joined us at Argonauta, we paid the four person rate, even though they only joined us for five nights. I did not have a problem with the policy.

I heard back from Carefree Getaways. They said they would prorate the fees for us - that is we'll only pay the rate for four for the nights that we have that many staying there!

Good to know...

Last summer we had a couple with us for 7 of the 10 days we were there...we paid the 4-person rate for the days they were there and the 2-person rate for the days it was just my husband and me...this was through Caribbean Villas.

Hi there. We have done this many times since 1991. Most folks will do the per day deal. We have found that seaviewhomes.com, and Donald Schnell will work with you along with a lot of the other folks on isalnd but ask in advance. Call them, don't cheat. Just my opinion...God bless...Bill

Actually we have had this situation a few times. We went down to SJ for 10 days and have a few days alone and then our friends came down for a week. We find this actually works well as we have some time by ourselves. I always find that when you are with other people you never really get to connect with your DH as well as you would if you are alone. Anyone else feel that way?
As for the villa price, all the places we stayed at adjusted the price for the number of people. Actually one of the rental agents said the additional charge per person is really to cover the water usage which is expensive.
