Anyone do a bareboat Ocean Runner rental lately? Total Cost?

Post by Gromit »

Just wondering if anyone has rented an Ocean Runner lately for day tripping off of STJ?

If so, what was the TOTAL cost including gas?

Thanks. It's the gas price that really puts this kind of rental over the edge for most - especially if there are just 2 people.

Thanks for the info!

Does anyone know how much it costs to add a captain? I'm thiking about doing this in October, but it's looking really expensive. I want to get to the Indians for snorkeling.

Adding a captain is $100 plus tip. Cleve is highly recommended.

We used Tony and loved him; he let us do whatever we wanted and snorkel as long as we wanted.

It was $100 plus tip as mentioned in the previous post, and we also bought him lunch.

He was worth EVERY penny of it too.

Mike & I used a Captain a couple of years ago, BEST money we spent!! $100 plus a generous tip. We did the Indians, Foxy's Taboo, Sandy Cay, White Bay, and cruised the North Shore of STJ. Based on our "to do" list and the sea chop our Captain helped plan our day.

The BEST part about having a Captain is that Mike or I didn't have to worry about docking, anchoring, navigating, or customs. We're boaters here at home so it was nice for Mike to have a break.

That said we'll Captain our own boat this December  We've gotten to know the water, customs, and "the drill" now.

As mentioned, the captain is around $100 plus tip, but if you use a captain, they waive the insurance charge. We rented from Ocean Runners two days in February (without captain). Each day ran around $600, including gas.
