Newbie Trip Report - Part 3

Day 5 - Might as well Jump!

Again I woke up early and mused that maybe I was turning over a new leaf in my life, maybe I would always be an early person from now on...had STJ shown me, quite literally, the light? Update: um. No. At least not as far as waking up early goes, seems to be an island only phenomenon to my supervisor's grave disappointment.

Today was JP's birthday and we decided to beach it close to the villa and go to the Westin where we could lounge on the beach, hit the bar and grab lunch in one fell swoop. Plus today we also had my parents, sister and two more of our friends, B & G coming into town. They were all staying at the Star Villas and we wanted to be around to greet them.

The Westin's grounds are immaculately maintained and every employee we encountered walking to the beach was courteous and friendly. The beach was not crowded and we settled in, conveniently missing the signs stating that chairs were for guests only (it was an honest mistake, pinkie swear, ok?) No one seemed to mind and we all had a blast getting in touch with our inner child while enjoying the water trampoline. Once I had enough of the tramp I swam out to the small floating dock (?, not sure what exactly you call those things?) that was a short ways off shore. I hung out here for a while, enjoying the sun and playing "spot the villa" as I gazed out on the surrounding hillsides and looked for villas that I had seen online.

We caught a casual lunch at the beach bar there (I can't remember the name). Service was pretty slow, even for island time but we didn't really mind. We headed back to the villa to get cleaned up and then out for some shopping in Cruz Bay. We got some good souvenirs and E and I went into pretty much every jewelry shop we could find before our significant others patience wore thin. In one we actually got to try on a yellow diamond ring, beautiful and Oscar worthy especially once we found out the price, 45,000. Um, maybe next time. Still it was super fun to try on and dream!

We stopped at the Fish Trap Market to pick up fresh fish for dinner that night. We arrived just as they were closing and they were nice enough to open back up for us. We got some great scallops and lobster tails for dinner, a bit more expensive than I thought it would be but the quality was great. My family was way too tired from the traveling to join us for dinner but B & G came over and we had a great time showing them all our pictures from the trip so far, backed by a fantastic reggae soundtrack befitting the setting of course! E and I decided to make JP a cake but we only had a muffin pan...long and totally funnier-when-you-are-tipsy story short, cake-muffins were born. Yum!

Day 6 - Taking the Plunge

D woke up on Wedding Day with the song from the end of The Muppet's Take Manhattan stuck in his head, "Somebody's Getting Married Today". Soon everyone was humming it under his or her breath. We were super excited but also really relaxed and easygoing about the day. We all decided to hit Honeymoon Beach before we had to start getting ready for the big night. Honeymoon is beyond perfection. There are no other words.

D took the opportunity after arriving to the beach to enact the ultimate homage to Lost by coming out the woods running at all of us while yelling, "Others, Others!" at the top of his lungs. If you don't watch Lost that may well be lost on you, but it cracked us up. We snorkeled and lounged all morning just soaking up the perfect atmosphere. We had a cool encounter with a stingray here that swam into shore.

Eventually we headed back to the villa to get ready for the wedding (D and I hiding from each other so not to ruin the "surprise" and before I knew it D was headed to Trunk Bay with the boys while the girls and I waited at the villa for the limo to pick us up and take us to the wedding. Love City Limos scooped us up (a nice touch, Mary at Island Style Weddings had unexpectedly upgraded our wedding package to include a limo ride to and from the wedding).

It was our first visit to Trunk and it was beautiful, the sun was just beginning its descent and the golden light reflecting off the turquoise waters was beautiful. The wedding was perfect. It seems like such a blur now but I remember smiling, laughing a lot and being just so happy and in the moment. Mary was great and it was really just everything we had wanted.

We had dinner at Stone Terrace and I really can't say enough good things about this restaurant! The service was outstanding and the chef, David really went out of his way to accommodate us and make us feel really welcome. The food, WOW. Just wow. Food Porn coming your way.....The pictures don't really do it justice though!

All in all, we just really thought our trip couldn't get any better after this day...but STJ has a way of surprising you....

Next time as we join, as the newbie's world turns...(thanks FlaGeorge!)...we head to the BVI's...and I find the true meaning of happiness...at the bottom of a perfect painkiller.

As we continue with “As the Newbie Turns”

Our “heroin bride-to-be” has successfully outsmarted the Westin security by blending into the guest and taking up residence on their beach chairs. She tells the unsuspecting Westin employees – “it was an honest mistake, pinkie swear, ok?”. They bite on it and leave her alone.

Then she swims out to the small floating dock to sun herself as if she’s a California seal. She states – “I swam out to the small floating dock (?, not sure what exactly you call those things?) - They’re called small floating docks.

Next we find our “heroin bride-to-be” on Honeymoon Beach – is she contemplating doing the honeymoon before the wedding. Just then, “D” comes running out of the wood yelling “Others, Others” – but it was really the infamous Capt. Morgan that was after him.

Finally – our “heroin bride-to-be” turns into our “heroin bride” with a beautiful ceremony on the beach. All in stunning attire – including “Bare Feet”.

Stay tune to the next episode as our “Dynamic Dual” take on the BVI’s. Does the Captain (Morgan that is) find his way into their painkillers.

Great job – you make a beautiful bride.
