mixology/ Capt. morgan

Post by traveler22 »

Hi, planning for my Feb.08 trip and have read about the beers and wines Mixology carry but not the rums.
We were on St. John last January and purchased a bottle of Captain Morgan at the airport and good thing we did because the restaurants and bars were all out,(they said there was a shortage) but I think they were pushing the Cruzan. Has anyone purchased it lately or got it from mixology in the past. We are traveling with a small group this year and want to order ahead (mixolgy) if possible. Thanks, Scott

We frequently have shortages of weird things. You have to just make do sometimes!
Here are a few of my favorite most memorable temporary shortages:
1)Bottled water (during St. Thomas Carnival)
2)Marlboro Lights
3)Iceberg lettuce
and my two favorites,
4) Limes
5) Bananas

I'm sure you can call Mixology Warehouse and get the scoop on the current Captain Morgan's situation.

Mixology told me back in March that they can order anything you want if you give them a little notice. I bet if you call now and order it, they will have it by the end of July.

Thanks all, Waterguy, yes,we were there the same week
as you. We miss each other at Sunday Jazz but we did meet St. John Ruth in her store and she said that we just missed you again. We are going back Feb. 2-9, hope to catch you this time, hope all is well.

If you can't get Capt Morgan, try Cruzan Clipper. It is not exactly the same but it is very similar.

Not to bash Mixology...but their prices are high if you have stuff delivered...maybe cheaper if you go pick it up. STT has every liquor imaginable at CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP prices if you are planning to go over there one day. Cigarettes are dirt cheap too for all you smokers. I was sorry I bought so much from Mixology once I saw the prices on STT...but it was a learning experience

This is a conversation we have every trip. We have yet to rent a vehicle on STT and stock up there; perhaps for Halloween. Mixology delivers and cold beer at the villa when we get there is a BIG deal for our gang. But, a rental car on STT and a cooler with ice works too. Convenience or cost.....

RickG/Ksea-
I understand what you guys are saying but three questions.
1.How close from Red Hook is the nearest place to get beer & such. I once went to the Kmart (in the country)and it was cheap but a pretty good ride.
2. do you save enough money to offset the ferry cost plus the time missed on St. John?
3.You both expressed that it is cheaper to pick up your purchases at mixology that to have it delivered but mixology advertizes that it's free if over $100.00.
Is this not true?
I usually don't worry about this but we have 2 other couples coming and it just seemed easier to buy in bulk.

I think the extra cost for the car ferry plus the time spent waiting for it isn't worth it. But there are only two if us and we don't drink THAT much. Our Mixology order was delievered free and the beer was cold. We were very happy. :)

As Captain Morgan drinkers we also loved Cruzan Clipper.

Mixology is just a bit more expensive, period, than some of the other options. Pine Peace has cheap Cruzan. If you want US megabrews (bud, miller, coors, budmilloors...) than STT is a good bit cheaper.

My real point is that the scarce resource for me on island is time more than saving 10%-20% on beer. On rum, Cruzan seems to be tasting better this year. I think moving production of the flavored "rums" to New Jersey and Florida has taken the stress off the main distillery in St. Croix.

Delivery from Mixology saves time 2 ways: no liquor stop and cold beer on villa arrival. It's a bargain for me... but picking up the rental car at the airport makes sense too.

Since we are talking about Mixology, can you recommend some good mixers to order? We will be making daiquiris, pina coladas, etc. Also, what is your favorite "island" beer?

Thanks.

traveler22, don't know what kind of Captain Morgan you want, but my husband bought CM Spiced and CM Private Label when we were there in May.

Thanks All,
I think we are going to grab what we can at the airport(Captain Morgan & Bailey's was very cheap last year) while we are waiting for our luggage. Place
our first order with mixology so it's at the villa COLD(beer)and then go from there. I sincerely appreciate everyones help. I also won't forget the Cruzan Clipper tip.
