Cingular Go Phones???

Post by cypressgirl »

I have Verizon as our normal cell phone provider. I've read posts about this go-phone and don't really know much about it. I've looked at it at Best Buy and it's about 20.00, but how does it actually work. I know Verizon will zing us for any calls, so I'm looking for a cheaper way to keep in touch with the family while away.

The one I looked at was Cingular. Is that the best for the USVI? Do you need a card?? I'm clueless about this subject.

Thanks!

Not sure about the specific model but we have Cingular and have had great service all over the island with no roaming charges.

Well... I guess I am an EXPERT on this subject  I was in St John the last of May. Took a VirginMobile and a GoPhone. (both prepaid throwaways) The VirginMobile worked in Cruz Bay and after that it was done. The GoPhone worked rather well in Coral Bay and Cruz Bay so the VirginMobile was turned off. I KNOW that others will dispute this BUT I'm keeping my GoPhone in service because I am going back to Coral Bay in August. HAPPY DANCE HAPPY DANCE !!!! :D

Kirk, How many minutes do you think you get with the phone and how many more will you get with the 50. card? Also, are you sure Cingular is the best one to buy for STJ?

CG - the only phone that worked for us was the Virgin Mobile prepaid phone. The least expensive one is around $20. My son already had one. We used it until he dropped it in the water down by the beach bar! Verizon - NO. Cingular - Iffy. Sprint/Nextel - Forget it. I couldnt even figure out how to use the phone in the villa! I sent emails from the Villa to keep up with folks and co workers back home.

Cypressgirl. i had the choice of 2 plans when i signed up. i went with the one that is 10 cents a min plus a dollar for any day you use it. IIRC, the other plan is 25 cents per min with no other cost.
I went with cingular because i've read here that it's good service on the island and they're about the only cellphone company that i don't hate....yet

We have Cingular and had pretty good coverage all over the island with no roaming if you have the Nationwide plan

Our cingular cells worked great on island. We did, however, pick up a few roaming signals while on the north shore, even with the nationwide plan??? You can tell on your phone, as the display screen changes. No big deal, we just called Cingular when we got back and they cleared the charges. Ali~
STJ - I "get it"
