Help planning our trip

Post by ewing33 »

I am planning a trip for 3 couples. I would like villa suggestions. Also, after the first week 2 of the couples will be leaving and my husband and I will be staying on for another week. Can you give me suggestions on how to spend the 2nd week. I have thought about renting a different villa, spending a week on Jost or another island. Any suggestions would be great. I know there are so many experts out there. Thanks Kim

We have rented villas the past three trips (just booked our fourth) We will be 4 couples for the next trip. We considered the following:

Location - we knew we needed to be close to North Shore Beaches. This is very group-specific for us as we have non-drivers in the group who wanted to be able to walk to the beach on their own. This narrowed our choices down considerably.

Also, we tend to eat out nearly every night and like going to Cruz Bay in the evenings. Therefore, we stay closer to Cruz Bay versus Coral Bay because we don't like driving home in the dark after a full evening.

Bedrooms - 3 of the 4 had to be equal or very nearly equal. In our group, the planner gets 1st choice of bedroom but a house with one great master and three so-so rooms would not work. If there would be fights or hard feelings over someone getting shorted on a less than desirable bedroom, look for a villa where the bedrooms are nearly equal. (This would definately be a problem with our group.)

Pool - a requirement for us. For others, not so much.

AC isn't a requirement for us. We rented the same house two years straight that had no AC but then again, we were there in February. The house we rented this year had AC in the bedrooms only, which we did need the first night but honestly, it only took the edge off the heat. By the second day we figured out that we needed to keep the shades drawn during the day in order to keep the temp tolerable.

Another point to think about is does everyone in your group have similar ideas on cost/quality?

Compared to other posters, we are novices. Hopefully you will get a comprehensive list of things to consider from some of the others.

Hi Kim,

If you let us know your budget and when you are traveling, and which side of the island you prefer, I'm sure you'll get a ton of suggestions!

Check out vacationvistas.com and destinationstjohn.com. I rented Cara Mia and Golden Dragon from them last year - both beautiful villas overlooking Fish Bay.

As to the second week, I would probably stay on St. John. All my trips to STJ have been with a big group, so I think it would be a whole different experience with just the two of us.

Ambiance is great for 3 couples. 3 king bedrooms that are almost identical. 1 in the main house and 2 in a separate pod by the pool. Great pool. A/C in all bedrooms. Nice kitchen and living area.

Very open and relaxing house.

Cocotier is nice for three couples with three nearly equal rooms. It would be four nearly equal, but one room does not have a big flat-screen television. We don't watch TV, so it's no big deal.

For you second week, I would consider staying out at East End or towards Salt Pond. You'll get a different vibe there. Another option is Virgin Gorda. JVD and Anegada are fun, but work to get there and there are many few amenities. I like Anegada for really getting away.

Cheers, RickG
