Two day sails in one week or is that too much?

Post by HawkeyeChick »

We're going on New Horizon II's daysail in the middle of our week long trip (22 days and counting!). My husband was thinking we should go for a second day away from the island.

Can I get your thoughts? Is this too much to do in one week? The only thing we have planned is the NH trip. Are there any other really good day trips out there to consider?

Finally, could we decide the week we get there or do these things fill up fast enough that we should book now?

Two day trips in not too much. I would wait until you are there and decide what you want to do. Maybe a dinghy day would be fun.

If you want a nice mellow day trip away from the island, you might want to consider a day with Capt. Phil aboard the Wayward Sailor. Go here for my trip report of our day with him: http://www.virgin-islands-on-line.com/f ... php?t=2709

It was one of the highlights of our trip!

We did back to back daysails with Captain Phil on Wayward Sailor last Feb. It was not "too much" water or sun. Make sure you have enough down time, though. We kind of rushed through some other things we wanted to do because we chewed up two whole days doing sails. When are you going? If it is during high season, it is sometimes hard to find sailing/snorkeling trips at the last minute. You might need to plan ahead and make your reservations.

Last year we spent a day with Stormy Petrol. Although we loved being out on the water and seeing the beaches from a different perspective, we didn't consider spending another day on a boat. For us it would have been too much.
This year we have not made any plans for a daysail. So many STJ beaches, so little time. Just my .02
Have fun,

Hi Fellow Hawkeye---We love boating, so we have done two boat days in a week. Its not too much for me. But I would wait and see how you feel when you get there. You can frequently sign up at last minute. Caneel has its own sailboat---you might try that.

We always do two excursions in a 1 week trip, but we are not the lay on the beach and read a book type of family. If you are happy totally relaxing on the beach or hanging out at the villa one is probably enough for you. If you want to do another excursion, I would recommend a 6 pak day sail where you really get the feeling you are sailing, or a powerboat charter to Jost and surrounding islands.

You'll have a ball whatever you decide. There is always the next trip. :D
