My Verizon is spotty on STJ. Honey's Cingular was like calling next door.

Cingular in St. Thomas or St. John is considered the same national GSM coverage as is on the mainland. I've had very good experience. You have to be careful on the east end or in the Maho-Cinnamon area because you may be going through Tortola and you'll have a big suprise on your bill. :)

My experience is, Sprint and Cingular work quite well on both STT and STJ. I have Sprint and my sister has Cingular, and we both use the phones while we're there.

DON'T, DON'T use Verizon. Their roaming charges are OUT OF THIS WORLD on STT/STJ!

My daughter's Virgin Mobile phone (the pre-paid one where you "top up") worked fine.

Great, so between the Virgin Mobile (we have the top up phone too) and the Sprint we should be OK. Would love to be able to keep in touch with others if our group splits up.

We always found that our cell phones work the best when they are turned off and left in our suitcase, but that's just us.
