Happy Solstice!
Happy Solstice!
A very happy Summer Solstice to all! Today marks the pinnacle of the sun's northward journey, and is as well the longest day of this year. For those of us in northern climes, best not to speculate on where the sun might decide to head next, but rather to savor these languid afternoons, with their long, sunlit evenings, when even New England turns tropical.
Befitting the occasion, I leave you with this sunset photo taken on another summer solstice evening, four long years ago. We had just made a successful offer for Coconuts, and took this photo from its deck. The sun is setting behind the southernmost tip of Great Hans Lollik, with Thatch and Grass Cays before it, and Outer Brass visible behind Thatch. There is also, as it happens, an Inner Brass, but the Peterborg peninsula of Magen's Bay conceals it. A solitary sailor can be seen wending their way past the Two Brothers towards their evening's mooring, and all is well with the world...
All the best,
Kevin
