love your history shot's reminds me of Vermont in the early 70's and how things have changed. question why / when did the fields get overgrown. Did the young people start moving off island during that timeframe. i.e. no more farming?

Thanks for the link. I really enjoy those old pictures.

A few years back, I donated a book to the Friends of the Park that had pictures of the cattle grazing fields over by Francis.

Tourism replaced agriculture as the primary economic activity over a longish period: between 1950 and and 1980 for St John, and between 1970 and 1995 for Jost van Dyke.
Between 1920 and 1950, there were about an equal number of cows and people in the USVI.
