OFF TOPIC QUESTION RE: FAV PLACE TO STAY MAYAN RIVIERA

Hi,
My brother is going to give his wife a little vaca after she retires from teaching , and he is wanting to try Caribbean beaches of Mexico-- somewhere maybe between Playa del Carmen and Tulum. He says a NON all inclusive as they will be exploring during the days a lot. They have never been to that area, and it's been many moons since I was there. Looks to be a gob of huge resorts, mostly all incl. If anyone has a fav, please let me know. (money IS an object here)
