Think I found the spot for next trip!

Post by mahojim »

Hey, y'all.
Thanks for the advice thus far on the villa search for the fall. Looks like it'll just be my squeeze and I, so I narrowed the search to a one bedroom. I think I actually found the closest place to Aqua Bistro possible without staying at Seabiscuit and Bay House. It's called Stone Harbor Villa and is so close that I think if I sneezed while on the pool deck, the folks at the bar would bless me. It's not the swankiest villa that I'll have stayed in, but I've been to worse. Washer/ dryer, pool, a.c., and great location. See, I'm one who doesn't mind the bar noise at night to be heard from the house. It actually adds to a party atmosphere to me, with music, laughing, and the like.-(not to mention the aroma of goodies cooking from their kitchen...!) Have a look- www.vrbo.com/32037
Any reviews, family members?

jim,

no review but a couple of comments other than great location, nice views and wonderful screened porch. I believe this is part of cluster including cocolobo plaza developed and last I heard still owned by james (jim) & mava Phillips. they have done many luxury villas on the island including casa bueno that we have stayed in. from what I've seen jim has good eye for construction detail & quality and mava for decorating. they live on island and when we met they had just moved out of casa b into large house with adjoining rentals just behind cocolobo. also uses on island management in form of marc miller of james miller prop http://www.jamesmmillerpropertymanagement.com/
marc's a great guy with a nice supply of fresh mint for those island drinks that I believe he'll share upon request. snorkel buddy and I stayed at battery hill last trip and loved the convenience of walking to dinner and local bars and hearing music in evenings. you'll have all but sunsets.
"cheers" to you and have a wonderful time.

That really looks nice! I also like the covered deck area. From past visits we've really enjoyed sitting outside when there is a light rain shower, when there is a covered area. You Also still have the option of another couple joining you since there is the loft available. We haven't planned our fall trip yes, we usually go in November timeframe. It would be great to meet you sometime! Happy planning!

This looks like a great spot. By the way, we are moving into one of those "adjoining rentals just behind cocolobo" in 3 weeks for a year! Do I sound too excited to get away?

Hey there,

We stayed at Stone Harbor back in Dec '09. Great location to walk to things, pool area at the time anyway seemed pretty private, least looking up the hill we couldn't easily see anyone hanging over us. Outstanding views of Coral Bay and sunrises. Like watching the boat traffic. At the time it was handled by Great Caribbean Getaways. I don't think it is anymore though, think that changed a couple years ago. I probably wrote something about it, maybe with pictures in a TR on here. Think the only negative I had was I don't think I liked the bedroom setup, it was downstairs off the main living area, had to go outside and down, and it was pretty enclosed. Can I say again I loved the water view? And the proximity to restaurants? We like being able to walk places. On the Cruz Bay side we enjoyed Casa Blanca for that reason too. Lavender Hill also.

I just was searching my computer for photos, but they're not easily appearing. PM me if you have any questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them.

We also stayed at Stone Harbor in November, 2011. We liked it a lot. Really convenient and great to be able to walk to places for dinner.

It took us a bit to get used to the bedroom setup, but it was OK. The sunrises were great. And even though it is close to Cocolobo, we were never bothered with noise from there or the road.

There is the loft bedroom, but I'd be reluctant to have another couple stay there. There is no privacy and little to no storage. I also think it would be pretty warm sleeping up there.

I think the villa is great for 2 people. PM me also, if you have any questions.

Oh yeah. Been trying my hand at the cooking lifestyle as I endlessly try to "woo" My Sweetheart, Amy.
We're an awesome team in the kitchen, and she took me to the moon with her tips on the grill on her first trip to STJ. Gotta' love those Polish/ Italian women. They cook as good as they look!
I have to give her the credit for the UNREAL quesadillas, but I like to consider my own self as the sauce guy, from time to time.
We're a good fit.
We're not as schooled as some food-porn faves on the forum, but we love trying!
Grill will be hot, drinks will be cold, and pool will be luke.
All you need to bring is a bottle (or snorkel) of kindness!

MJ, you've just described my exact relationship with my boyfriend. Our fridge is roughly 75% sauce on any given day.
