Just reminiscing...

Post by stjchica »

It's been nearly a year since we've been on island and I find it easier to not miss STJ as long as I stay away from this forum, but alas here I am today..and it got me thinking about our first night on island last November..
It had rained all evening and we dashed into Woody's. We got a couple drinks and an appetizer and took a deep breath. We were there. On STJ. In our happy place. It was late, and the lights were low and there was some great music playing and well, it was just perfect. Yep, missing you today STJ.... :(
I know many of you are missing STJ as well~

God do I feel your pain, Pam, and it's just not funny anymore.
My name is Maho Jim, and I'm a STJ-aholic. It's been 2&1/2 years since my last visit.
Funny, Woody's is the first place to hit when we land for my favorite Painkiller.
It's been keeping me off the forum, too. Sometimes it just hurts too much, so I'm quite the lurker these days.
Damn, 2& 1/2 years. I feel like the thirsty guy in the desert wondering if it was all just a mirage...where's my damned oasis?!?
I miss the times when I could go twice a year, guess that this is my payback. Sometimes it's just heartbreaking, like a kick to the gut.
Don't get me wrong, I do sincerely enjoy the trip reports, pix, and excitement for our family members with ticker countdowns as well as the fresh wonderful memories of their recent adventures there. Hell, I love yous guys.
Since my first visit umpteen trips ago, STJ has lived in my soul. For those of us that "get it", there's nothing we can do but carry it with us. And heck, we will always have eachother, right? This here forum family is probably the best support system we could hope for. It'd be easy to read this as jealousy, but it's more along the lines of missing how that wonderland of a place makes me feel, deeply. So, I'll just keep her with me in my heart and dreams, until the tears run down my cheeks when I land there again...
So, Pam, short story-long, I feel your pain. You're not alone.
Wishing you and yours-

Ditto MahoJim. I was just there in July but it's not looking like it's in the cards for a trip next year. It's sad to say but that puts a huge damper on my whole year knowing I'll have to wait at least another year. But my wife and I have a plan in place. We are in our mid-30s and plan on retiring in our mid-60s on STJ. It's pretty daunting to think that we have about 30 more years of (to take a quote from Bodhi in Point Break), "Inching along the freeway in our metal coffins". But we have 2 kids to raise and a lot of money to save in the meantime. So, I will continue to keep the faith until I check that box for a one-way ticket!

Whoa Mahojim, I think you brought a tear to my eye, STJ lives in my soul as well, I am not young anymore but I'm healthy and am trying to get down to "heaven on earth" as much as my purse strings will allow. I cannot wait to see what the future brings wondering whether I will still be healthy, have more money, etc, etc., the time for me is now to get to the rock, I hope you will be able to return very soon :P
